This is important. Pay attention. Make sure everyone has this. This is out of the authoritarian playbook. Militarize the capital city. We need to fight back.

The next 45 days are going to be a time when everybody in DC needs to know our rights and how to assert them.

Here are five important things for everyone to know while DC is under occupation 🧵

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Appreciate the thoughtfulness our Board of Directors took in handling this decision. There is no place for anti-semitism. @neatoday.bsky.social

Tonight, NEA’s Board of Directors voted not to adopt a proposal that would have, for the first time, dictated who we engage with and what resources we share with our members.

People in wheelchairs are getting arrested right now in the Russell Senate Office Building in DC. They showed up to tell Congress not to cut their Medicaid, because they cant afford health care without it. If you look closely you can see the zip ties on their hands. #WeWontGetOverLosingMedicaid

They’re planning on building a detention center for migrants in the middle of the fetid swamps of Florida.

If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.

This has to stop. Students, educators, and all our community members deserve to live in peace and safety. Our hearts go out to the Hortman and Hoffman families and all who care for them.

The news about the targeted attacks on lawmakers Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman and their spouses is heartbreaking. My prayers are with them all.

Politically-motivated violence is unacceptable and an attack on our democracy. We cannot let fear win. We must continue our fight for a better future.

Last night, Capitol Police arrested roughly 60 veterans and their family members outside the U.S. Capitol. The group had gathered to hold a peaceful sit-in on the Capitol steps, but police intentionally set up a barrier of bike racks to prevent them from demonstrating.

What are we becoming?

This is not normal. This is not democracy. This is not free speech.

This is authoritarianism, and we cannot be silent.

This is disgusting.

If this is how they treat Alex Padilla, a United States Senator, how do you think they’ll treat you?

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.”

They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

Pay attention. Standing vigil peacefully in support is not a crime. I stand with SEIU.

David Huerta peacefully stood up for his community during an ICE raid, and was forcefully injured and unjustly arrested. As educators and union members, we stand with David, @seiuca.bsky.social, and demand an end to these inhumane attacks. Where they bring terror, we bring solidarity.

Born and raised in Los Angeles County, David Huerta is a champion for justice and a good neighbor. Today, while advocating for his community during an ICE raid, he was injured and arrested. These raids are dangerous for our families and communities. They are unjust and must end.

If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut science research and education the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.
