It's been a nice touch by the Cubs before their 4 postseason home games this year airing live on the jumbotron whatever other MLB playoff game is already underway.

The average pitch the Cubs batters have seen this postseason is 92.7 MPH.

Not the average "fastball." The average PITCH. All of them.

That's faster than the average -fastball- the 2008 Cubs saw in the playoffs: 92.4.

🚨 The Texas National Guard has arrived in the Chicago area.

Tribune journalists saw several military members, dressed in camouflage and carrying long guns, on federal property in the far southwest suburbs this morning. Soldiers could be seen walking in and out of mobile sleeping units on the site.

Jameson Taillon will start Game 3 for the Cubs as they look to avoid elimination Wednesday at Wrigley Field.

Cubs were 7-6 against Milwaukee in the regular season 🤷🏻‍♀️ hard to say how much that kind of stuff matters in the postseason/short series

Cubs lose to Brewers, 7-3, and return to Wrigley Field on brink of elimination.

Shota Imanaga struggled and got tagged for 2 costly homers, Cubs offense managed just 2 hits -- both singles -- after 1st inning and did not have a RISP in last 7 innings.

Colin Rea threw 3.1 shutout innings in relief.

Colin Rea takes over for the Cubs with two outs in the 5th looking to keep them in it as Brewers lead 7-3.

I agree but unfortunately for them, losing Horton really compromised how they could best navigate that and even if they advance/he returns, it won't be as a starter this postseason
mmontemurro.bsky.social
Obviously plenty that can be second guessed starter wise in Game 1, but Imanaga was clearly lined up/the guy for Game 2 on normal rest
mmontemurro.bsky.social
Because they need SP to get at least 12 outs for Counsell to be able to deploy their best arms to go last 15 outs otherwise it risks putting reliever in bad matchup and/or extending them for pocket of hitters you ideally don't want them to face. WC Game 3 is blueprint, they needed more from Imanaga

A really poor performance from Shota with the season on the line, though with a fresh bullpen one wonders why Craig had him pitch in the 3rd at all
mmontemurro.bsky.social
so you would've rather had Colin Rea and Taillon on short rest?

Shota Imanaga has given up a home run in 10 consecutive starts.

He tied for the 4th most homers allowed in the regular season and had the 2nd worst HR/9 rate.

Tonight marked his 11th start with at least 2 HRs allowed this year, four starts of which occurred in the final month of the season.

Imanaga's night is done following Yelich's 2-out single.

Palencia takes over in the 3rd. Cubs needed more from Imanaga.

Daniel Palencia is now warming for the Cubs.

Imanaga gives up another home run, this time a solo shot by William Contreras to put the Brewers ahead 4-3 in the 3rd.

Another pitch he left belt high, 90.7 mph fastball inside.

The first inning has plagued Shota Imanaga this year, entering tonight with a 7.20 ERA.

Vaughn's home run was the 10th he's allowed in the 1st inning this season.

Andrew Vaughn ties it with a 3 run HR
mmontemurro.bsky.social
Shota Imanaga gives up lead as Andrew Vaughn hits game-tying 3-run HR in bottom of the 1st

Brutal sequence for Imanaga: struck out Chourio & Turang to start the inning then back-to-back singles by Contreras and Yelich before Vaughn goes deep on a 3-2 sweeper.

Cubs desperately needed a 0 that frame

Seiya Suzuki with a three-run home run to give the Gubs the early 3-0 lead
mmontemurro.bsky.social
Seiya Suzuki just hit a tank -- huge 3-run HR off Brewers lefty Aaron Ashby to give the Cubs the lead in the first inning.

The 440-foot homer was 111.7 mph off the bat, Suzuki's 2nd of the postseason.

Kyle Tucker takes a foul ball off his left knee on his first swing of the game and is getting checked out by Counsell and team trainer. He's staying in.
