A consequence of climate change being worsening sleep apnea is something I never even considered. 🍎🧪

A study in Nature Communications quantifies how rising temperatures linked to climate change would increase the severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and reports projected losses of healthy life years and workplace productivity due to OSA. go.nature.com/3HMqsMg #medsky 🧪
This is figure 3, which shows projected wellbeing burden of warming-related increase in moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) prevalence.

Our toolbox for management of #obesity continues to grow with phase 3 data being released today for the combination of cagrilinitide and semaglutide. Average weight loss for the combined drugs was over 20% and side-effect profile was similar to semaglutide. #Medsky 🧪🍎 www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

This is such a tremendous loss for nutrition and obesity research. Truly hope you are able to continue your work elsewhere especially in Ultra-processed foods.

After 21 years at my dream job, I’m very sad to announce my early retirement from the National Institutes of Health. My life’s work has been to scientifically study how our food environment affects what we eat, and how what we eat affects our physiology.

(1/n) Why is it so hard to stop eating when something tastes amazing? Our new @ science.org paper reveals that dopamine helps sustain our drive for tasty treats—and may explain how anti-obesity Ozempic tames those urges. doi.org/10.1126/science.adt0773

This is such an amazing study. Researchers tracked people over 300,000 births looking at how biomarkers change & recover postpartum. ~60% stabilise close to pre-conception levels after 3 months, but some (eg for bone & liver health) take a year. Others never recover! 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Are tirzepatide and semaglutide cost effective? Although they would reduce 20,854 & 19,211 cases of DM2 and 10,655 and 8263 cases of CVD per 100K respectively, their prices would require a 30.5% and 81.9% reduction from current price to be “cost-effective" #Medsky 🧪

We do see similar rapid weight loss with bariatric surgery. So medication selection, ie the correct medication based on BMI and medical co-morbidities will be key. 🧪 #obesity #Medsky

Our review on Short chain fatty acids was just published. SCFA were once thought to just influence the gut mucosa locally, but now appear to have systemic effects: immune-modulation, anti-inflammatory, appetite suppression, mitochondrial function, etc.
