Things I care about: not being hit by a car, excellent views, fancy produce, grant/research administration.

I’ve been trying to avoid it but I think I’m going to have to write about that essay. Organizational demographics and field studies show it is very wrong, but white supremacist myths don’t stick because they are right. This one sticks because it flatters people who see jobs as their prerogative.

I mean how many times have you decided to veer into opposing traffic at the last second to cause your own death? And of course that explains why the driver would leave the scene. And if you get hit head on by a 6000 pound Chevy, it's really important to ask if you were wearing a styrofoam cap!!

The reality is that the old systems have hit their limit. My experience is limited to financial/grant management, but the old systems were much more manual/prone to human error. Audits were extra miserable. I don't love Workday & wonder why it came to dominate, but I do not miss the old ways.

the birthright clause was not just written to wipe dred scott off of the books, it was written to repudiate the *idea* behind dred scott, you might say the larger *ideological project* of dred scott. and the whole of section 1 of the 14th amendment is a constitutional statement of political equality
