Dangerous Coats

Someone clever once said
Women were not allowed pockets
In case they carried leaflets
To spread sedition
Which means unrest
To you & me
A grandiose word
For commonsense
Fairness
Kindness
Equality
So ladies, start sewing
Dangerous coats
Made of pockets & sedition

Finally went to look at MNSure so I could have my annual mental breakdown.

Do we want to cover the local cardiologist or the Mayo heart surgeon? A plan covering both is prohibitively expensive.

Last night, the federal government started promoting vaccine conspiracy theories on the CDC’s website.

We should be investing in vaccines that stop preventable diseases, not undermining the science that prevents them.

FinstadWatch: We pause to remind Minnesota Republican Congressman like Finstad, Fischbach, Emmer, and Stauber of the words of arch-conservative Liz Cheney, “There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain,” These unAmericans need regular reminding of their complicity!

Anyone heard from Brad "Fiscal Responsibility" Finstad about how we added another TRILLION dollars to the national debt in two months?

I just looked at the insurance plans for next year. We currently pay $517/mo for a family of four on a silver plan with $0 deductible. The same plan will cost $923 next year.

That's $406 more, nearly double. It's more than our mortgage payment.

Can you imagine having to come up with $450/month to be able to pee? That's reality for many people.

We shouldn't just support Medicaid--we should have universal healthcare.

Health is a human right. It shouldn't be traded for billionaire tax cuts.

My family's health insurance shouldn't cost as much as my monthly mortgage payment.

Finstad disagrees.
FinstadWatch: The Senate Democrats are asking for an extension of the Affordable Care Act premium subsidies as one condition for voting for a Continuing Resolution. The Republicans aren’t willing to negotiate. Why do Republicans like Finstad hate health care?

"The transition to authoritarianism in the United States depends upon us. In Trump’s paradigm, this is all a show, and our role is to be bit players. We have been handed a script with no words and await our cue to do nothing."

And so we must do more than nothing.

Kids learn better when they are housed, fed, and feel safe and supported.

Republicans have always been the first to tear those things away and then complain about poor test scores.

Keep having conversations with those around you about voting, because these are not the values our kids need.

FinstadWatch: The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the Republican budget will cut 3.2 million people off SNAP nationwide, but for Finstad, these numbers are just “fearmongering.” Don’t forget that Republicans needed these huge benefit cuts to pay for huge tax cuts for the wealthy.

Families shouldn’t have to drive for hours for care, or pay more because it’s harder to find. But Brad Finstad voted to gut Medicaid, and now Mayo is closing clinics. Enough is enough.

I just issued an executive order to safeguard vaccine access in Minnesota.

While the Trump Administration attempts to limit Americans’ access to preventative care, Minnesota will continue to be guided by science and the freedom to seek out medical expertise.

Brad Finstad had to twist himself into knots defending the Medicaid cuts he voted for, because he knows how unpopular they are.

I wrote a response to his op-ed, laying out why his cuts are so harmful, and how we could actually bring down costs instead.

Jake Johnson: Finstad's Medicaid cuts are unpopular. Here's why
Jake Johnson: If Rep. Brad Finstad were serious about cutting waste and fraud in the health care system, he’d go after the big corporations that are driving up costs, not his own constituents.

A federal-state partnership that monitors for foodborne illnesses quietly scaled back its operations nearly two months ago.

As of July 1, the critical surveillance program is monitoring for only two pathogens instead of the usual eight, a spokesperson for the CDC says.
