ICE and Trump have fully lost control of any narrative. Because all anyone saw yesterday was a bunch of insecure incels killing a man for being everything that is seen as what makes a good man.

Again, I know it’s persnickety, but I want to emphasize that Alex Pretti was not “showing up at a protest,” he was driving around the city as part of a community-led first responder network. He was likely carrying a gun the same reason anyone does: he felt like he might encounter an unsafe situation
The party that has spent unlimited resources and energy getting states to pass laws to allow citizens to openly carry loaded weapons anywhere - now believes that exercising this right is permission for law enforcement to murder you.

Honestly, how dumb do they think we are?

What with government officials throwing around the term “semiautomatic weapon“ like it’s a bad thing, maybe now is the perfect time for Dems to introduce gun safety legislation.

Make republicans vote on that shit right now.

Trump posting a picture of the permitted gun as justification.

This is the obvious-est thing to say, but imagine Fox News & the GOP if federal forces under a Dem president shot a man who had a permitted gun, & the president then used the mere fact of that possession to make light of it.

An observation from the messaging wars: Minnesota Republicans have finally begun acknowledging the situation is no longer ideal or tenable and are telling Minnesotans to look towards state leaders, especially the governor, to deescalate, with no accountability or blame for ICE. Its a shift…

And just to clarify: @womensmarchmn.bsky.social is the local group who is doing kick ass work.

Don’t send money to national. Send money to the local group.

They’ve been engaged in the organizing in just about every large rally (Hands Off, Good Trouble, No Kings 1 and 2 and of course IceOutMN).
Hey @womensmarch.com: your ads fundraising off what's happening in MN keep popping up in my FB feed. You say contributions "will go directly toward local organizers, legal defense funds, and critical resources on the ground" but the link goes to a generic "support our organizing work" ActBlue page.

You may have voted for him. You may have supported what he said Operation Metro Surge was going to be.

But it’s okay to say you changed your mind. It’s okay to say he’s gone too far.

Kristi Noem has been an abject failure leading the Department of Homeland Security for the last year – and the abuses of power we’re seeing from ICE are the latest proof that she has lost control over her own department and staff. 🧵

The president should be impeached and convicted, as should everyone responsible for these outrages. ICE should be disbanded. So should the Department of Homeland Security. And the people who have killed should be investigated and brought before judges and juries.
We have to see the logic of the killings as well as the killings themselves. The horror is a truth in itself. But it is also a sign of a political logic, one known from the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century.

Tomorrow, Monday, January 26, our case to end Operation Metro Surge will be heard in federal court at 9a CT.

Not trying to stoke division, but underline a lesson. Remember the high-decibel whining over the years about the Minneapolis City Council expressing solidarity with various oppressed people? ”Stay in your lane!” Remember how sustaining this outside support feels right now as we face the gun barrels.

"Now it’s time for our rich sports owners to take the baton," writes columnist Jim Souhan.

"Shut it all down until it’s safe for every Minnesotan to drive to a sports venue without being rammed, beaten, abducted or killed."
Souhan: What good are sports in times like these?
Local owners should be making a statement. Better yet, they should be taking action.
