This one highway is projected to cost 85% of what CA has spent on high-speed rail over 15 years and hundreds of miles. If we can afford this, we can afford high-speed rail.

The entire proposed Highway 37 Solano-Marin super bridge is estimated to cost $11 billion, all to replace an existing road between a couple of suburbs. And it's proposed at 114 feet wide.

For comparison, the Golden Gate Bridge is 90 feet wide.

Caltrans has released a cross section for the ultimate (raised viaduct) version of SR-37.

Now maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if you were building a road that you planned to keep at 4 lanes wide, I don't think it would look like this.

“One of the chants that has become ubiquitous at these protests at Broadview is, ‘Love your neighbor, love your God, save your soul and quit your job,’” said Black, who pastors at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago. “Everybody chants that.” ⚓️

Wanna learn more about the pastor in this photo?

I talked to him yesterday.

He's currently part of a lawsuit against DHS, in part due to this exact moment: religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...

Just remembered this jaw-dropping graph by @oceansclimatecu.bsky.social showing the rate of change in CO2 during the previous two deglaciations of the Pleistocene (which, as a fun aside, featured ~400 feet of sea level rise) as compared with today

Resist Lib solidarity entryism in DSA is a very funny scenario that has never occurred to me. don't know that I think it's likely though

One thing people should know is that Choe works for Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk's group, and was at the WH on behalf of that group
atrupar.com
Jonathan Choe to Trump: "Another group right now that is behind antifa and working with antifa very closely based on the research that we have right now that we're gonna give to you and your team are the Democratic Socialists of America."
monteurhulot.bsky.social
anyway Stephen Miller is going to declare that DSA membership is a criminal federal isn't he

I am fondly recalling the time I saw a black bloc kid smack Jonathan Choe's phone to the ground while he was recording at a protest action

anyway, I am still convinced there must be some kind of bodies in some kind of basement there

A tweet from November 10, 2017. It reads:

"Jack Posobiec definitely seems like by far the creepiest of these young fascist shitheads. Someday we're going to learn some extremely dark shit about him"

so many liberals live in a fantasy version of the world. will vast areas of the tropics be desertified and the Ganges delta largely underwater due to climate change? doesn't matter, that won't push migration to the north because line always goes up
a post from Bluesky user William B. Fuckley reading:

"immigration is good and it should be far easier to come to the developed world legally, but even ignoring the quite strong political complications of doing so, we only have a couple decades before the developing world gets rich enough that immigration is no longer a foolproof "add people" button"

everyone who's claiming to not see this should play some Star Wars Battlefront II matches. it's very clear that a bunch of people are having fun saying something which isn't *quite* the n-word but can be deployed like it
monteurhulot.bsky.social
yeah, I wouldn't think of 'slop' as a slur at all; it's just a pejorative way to refer to the output of AI, which doesn't reify AI in the same way 'clanker' etc. do
monteurhulot.bsky.social
using a slur against an AI isn't racism against a computer, but it's allowing that there is a concrete entity towards which one could express antipathy to, which is already accepting more of the AI boosters' position than their critics should.
monteurhulot.bsky.social
the other thing is that all the 'anti-AI slurs' I've seen implicitly adopt too much of their opponents' premises. the use of the slur suggests there is a discrete AI entity to whom the insult can be directed, but there's no 'there' there, it's just a bunch of processes happening on a computer
monteurhulot.bsky.social
it's certainly not as simple as 'slurs activate the bigotry neuron,' but I think regular use can influence thought patterns. we've certainly recently seen that "let us use slurs, make comedy legal again!" can shade into "we must end civil rights" fairly quickly
monteurhulot.bsky.social
in 2018, Indonesia rapper "Rich Chigga" addressed the obvious problem with the use of teasing almost-slurs by changing his name to "Rich Brian." I propose we take the same approach with anti-AI terms. we should call all computers Brian
monteurhulot.bsky.social
'clanker' and other 'anti-AI slurs' are cringe in a way most reminiscent of the use of 'wigger' in the aughts, but if anything it seems more troubling because the 'hehehe, we're almost using racial slurs' jouissance is combined with a real antipathy towards the deployment of these technologies
monteurhulot.bsky.social
even if that was not a concern...you know where it started, right? you really want to adopt the habits of Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) players? really?
monteurhulot.bsky.social
obviously these terms aren't bad because they're 'racist against computers'. but they are habituating people to expressing their anger through words which are directly modeled on racial slurs in their construction and application. seems bad!

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...
