Agreed. There's too much knee-jerk reactions and it can easily start is chain of them it lead to bitter arguments as people get defensive over misunderstandings or a post which wasn't perfect.

And I don't disagree with your point, but it's worth considering that this isn't a misunderstanding in the middle of a real time conversation, but something the poster took a screenshot of and had plenty of time to think about.
I think we all need to remember to do that more.

I do wonder how much the oil companies want to do this in a country that's going to be hostile with no U.S. troops on the ground. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

I think it's also a form that people have no real experience with in contemporary creatures. And we're not fantastic at intuitively knowing where the center of mass is in a random shape.

Unfortunately, I don't think most Americans care that much about the rest of the world. This is unlikely to be a major election issue unless it starts costing American lives.

Agreed. I think social media has really encouraged a culture of knee-jerk extreme reactions with little thought. It wasn't remotely perfect before social media, but it definitely seems worse than it was even 15 years ago.

Republicans worked for decades to get their voters to be this unreasonable, fearful, angry, and unhinged to win elections. I think with Obama's candidacy it started to become clear to them that they no longer had any control over their clown car.

Fundamentally, the Republican party is about three things these days. White Supremacy, Trump, and grift. If it fits within any of those, they'll contort themselves to support it.

Anyhow, I'm a civilian, but it seems like we need more effort made here and in making it part of the culture, and a greater effort on the moral use of the military and military force, even. Both within military and civilian spheres.
