They spent decades working to bring this about so I can't say I feel sorry for any of them. They deserve worse.
New in PN: Heritage Foundation killed by MAGA

"RIP to the Heritage Foundation, which functionally died this week, as its most prominent staffers made a beeline for the exit.

The Suspect: Trump and his posse of online shitposters.

The weapon: Antisemitism.

The room: Phoenix Convention Center."
Heritage Foundation killed by MAGA
Antisemitism in the GOP? The devil you say!

Republicans have deliberately faked evidence like this before. That's how they went after Dan Rather.
I’m skeptical about that letter Epstein supposedly attempted to send to Larry Nasser, and I’m worried that if it turns out to be fake, it’ll be used to discredit + undermine otherwise credible evidence. Can we all pump the brakes on it until it’s verified by a handwriting expert?

Asimov has severe cerebellar hypoplasia so he doesn't have the coordination to walk and occasionally makes a big mess. He's very affectionate and happy though.

I fixed him up with his kibble again after this (his bed has a pee pad just to make cleaning up kibble easier).

Good thread
To capture funding and ride the wave of the AI bubble, a variety of institutions (commercial and otherwise) have pivoted to calling their machine learning applications "AI."

The paper I am linking below explains what's going on here. But there's also more to it than that!

It's extremely disturbing that Trump would probably have near 50% if he hadn't screwed up the economy and healthcare.

About half of Americans don't really have a problem with all the horror and death the administration has done because it's to other people.
A majority of Americans disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing as president, according to the latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll.

One big difference is that the 2nd Iraq war, as foolish and wrong as it was, still was authorized by Congress as is required by the Constitution.
Gallego: "This is the Iraq War 2.0 with a South American flavor. I'm hoping this doesn't happen, but I'm telling you - if you look at what they have down there, all the assets they have down there, all the actions they're taking, this is absolutely an effort to get us involved in a war in Venezuela"

Meta has removed or restricted dozens of accounts belonging to abortion access providers, queer groups and reproductive health organizations in the past weeks in what campaigners call one of the “biggest waves of censorship” on its platforms in years.

Let's remember that Trump's track record with getting candidates he doesn't like removed or ones he does like to win is really poor. Especially when he's not on the ballot.
Trump on Indiana Republicans refusing to redistrict: "There's a man named Bray, I guess head of the Senate. Was that Bray? Was that the name, Bray? I'm sure that whenever his primary is, I'm sure he'll go down. He'll go down. I'll certainly support anybody that wants to go against him."

Just against numbers now, I guess
Trump: "I think we can do much better than traditional numbers and you see that with what we're doing. We're leading in everything."

It's all how he has people holding "bigger checks" signs in the background while telling people they need to reduce their spending by over 90%.
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

Asimov insists on spending an hour each day in my lap licking himself, me, and everything else.

He sometimes makes grabby waves with a paw when he wants to lick my face. Or he tries climbing up to it.

worth noting here that the position of the conservative legal movement is that trying to remedy environmental racism is itself illegal race discrimination

If I could commission a study on generative AI, I'd want to look into the relationship, if any, between reading comprehension skills and the perception that a chatbot is conscious/sapient.

I suspect poor reading comprehension skills make this misperception more likely.

Total investment in generative AI is expected to reach over $600 billion this year.

That's enough money to hire, for $60k/year, a million artists and writers for 10 years. That seems like it would have been a better investment, imho.

This is why there needs to be court martials in addition to Hegseth getting punished as much as the law allows (which probably won't happen until after Trump is out).
Department of Defense Law of War Manual, Sec. 18.3.2.1 states the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders.

What’s its key example? Wait for it . . . It’s "orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Thought I'd just double check to make sure generative AI is still a mess. We have a cat with unidentified food allergies, but it seems like she can handle corn, rice, and meat. So I asked for a list of cat food that only had those ingredients.

The results ignored the "only", so completely useless

Let's be clear, these lies about groceries prices being cheaper, Trump talking about how "groceries" is an old-fashioned word, are happening because Trump's a narcissist that can't handle bad news and so out of touch that he doesn't know people look at their grocery costs.
Hassett: "On one of the Sunday shows, the anchor criticized the fact Walmart said the Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper by about $10. Then he said, 'Oh yeah, but they substituted generic stuff,' as if having a generic something is a crime for ordinary folks! It shows how out of touch these people are."

Trump has never understood economics at all.
Americans are very unhappy over the cost of living—and the president’s shortsighted solutions promise to make life more expensive for everyone, James Surowiecki argues:
Trump Doesn’t Understand Inflation
Having promised to lower living costs, the president seems keen to make American life more expensive.
