I haven’t posted in a while, but now back after deleting my X in Sept. I’m a writer, poet, & anthropologist of heritage. My piece in @aljazeera.com on the destruction of Palestinian heritage & archeology as a mechanism of power says all you need to know about my views
animalarchaeology.com
🏺 An extremely important article from @morganvl.bsky.social about archaeology’s complicity in the current genocide of Palestinians and why archaeologists - and the organisations that claim to represent them - must speak up and refuse to stay neutral. www.aljazeera.com/opinions/202...
Why archaeologists must speak up for Gaza
Archaeology is often a mechanism of power. As such, its scholars have an obligation to speak up against oppression.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

Every year I do a photography project during October. I’ve done haunted objects and favorite horror movies seen through my lens, for example. This year, I didn’t feel like doing one. Tonight I walked past a ghost and thought, “Decorations!” Here’s #1

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

Woke early this morning to the news of Manchán Magan’s passing. We’d connected last spring but never got to meet. His books and tv series inspired me to begin learning Irish, to reconnect with my grandfather’s land. This soul taught us much & will be deeply missed.

Thinking of Sarah Clancy, always so good at capturing small bytes of humanity, ever moreso now as she's literally sticking up for humanity, while most of us nod off. A great person, hugely kind. 🙏

My friend Sarah Clancy is currently in IOF captivity, kidnapped last night when her boat, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, was illegally intercepted in international waters.

Some boats are still sailing. Do what you can - wherever you are - to amplify & protest. 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

Glasgow Celtic Green Brigade tonight in their Europa League game against Braga. They're right, UEFA is complicit in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians, by refusing to expel the apartheid state for its endless war crimes. It's long past time to #BanIsrael #FreePalestine

I understand the desire to run solicitation-based magazines. Submissions are exhausting, a core burnout driver.

But without subs-based mags, there’d be no one new to solicit 👀✨

The work doesn’t go away—it is redirected to other editors in the ecosystem, who are critical to finding new writers.

A Rush to Save Ancient Artifacts in Gaza Highlights All That Has Been Lost

A bombing delay enabled rescue of some objects, but archaeologists fear the wider loss of antiquities from the many cultures living there over thousands of years.
