Finally got to sit down to finish @helpactionneeded.bsky.social’s run of HELLWHALERS. It was excellent! Perfect wrap to an awesome 4-parter. The whale encounter got intennnnnse! Highly recommend the entire thing for anyone curious about the game. A beautiful example of running the setting well done.

Heart scenario design is tricky but fun; you need to keep things absurd but grounded, tragic but wonderful, daft but disgusting. To that end I have written a world-ending adventure which focuses around one (1) bee

HOOK
A decrepit Deep Apiarist approaches the delvers and speaks: the walls between worlds are thinner than ever, and the crimson undoing that splinters the real will soon arise and destroy us all. They press a single bee (very gently) into your hand, casting a rheumy eye around themselves as they do, and beseech you to take this Queen to an empty hive beside Wardstone Nasonov (Heart, pXX) - and from there she will reinforce the wards that sustain the universe. “Worry not,” they croak, “for I will be with you every step of the way,” whereupon they drop dead and a hundred bees swarm out of their mouth and ears.

You hear a shout from across the cavern - “There! They have it!” - and someone opens fire. Someone else returns fire from behind you. It seems like this is a very important bee.

I have a cheat sheet I can share when I get back to my laptop. Definitely recommend a lot of ‘yes, and’ improv, and don’t be afraid to encourage the players to keep playing cards, even when they have a weaker hand, because that gets them new cards.
