Did I mean to rewatch WORKING GIRL tonight and get zero writing done? No. I did not. But I regret nothing.

Anyhow, wrote about this film in 2023 for its 35th anniversary. Still pretty proud about this one. Give it a read if you’re so inclined.

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

It’s one of my figurative childhood memories, watching that with my parents at the Magic Lantern in Spokane with my parents. Going to try and convince friends who’ve never seen it - crazy! - to go along with me.

They’re also doing CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON layer this month, and that was the first film I ever saw in 3-D when I was like 6 or 7. Totally going to have to go to that, too. 😁

Did that tonight, too. So much fun! Made me appreciate it a wee bit more. Couldn’t stop giggling throughout. ❤️

That ending is just so great and so nuts. It’s honestly easy to see how Andrew Davis could go on to make THE FUGITIVE. Love it. Love it all. This film is such a kick in the pants.

Only one of my favorite slashers of all time. I didn't even know @pauletheredge.bsky.social was on here. Been trying to track him down for years! Thank you for this, Paul. It fuckin' kicks ass and has continued to do so all these 20+ years.

Thrilled to finally have this one on DVD. Thanks again to @mangiotto.bsky.social for the rec, longtimeback. And thanks to Paul Etheredge for this copy.

Should I go see FRIDAY THE 13TH PART III in 3-D tonight even though it’s not like I’m some kind of FRIDAY THE 13TH fanatic? Tickets are only $9 so I’m deeply tempted. 🤔

Terrific performance from its adorable canine lead Indy aside, this mangy spin on secluded backwoods paranormal activity is a frustrating letdown. #GoodBoy sadly was not for me.

AI slop increasingly strikes me as one of the defining aesthetics of our era, even beyond its heavy appeal to reactionaries, so, alas, I am going to keep writing about it.

In this week's free newsletter, @emilystjams.bsky.social argues that the appeal reactionaries find in AI slop nostalgia isn't about what's present in these videos, but what's missing from them

Seems appropriate for today, and while still funny, nowhere near as amusing as it once was. Still a FAR SIDE classic, though. 😢

A great piece that hasn’t aged a day since 1941.

Play the game the next time you’re in a room full of people. I’ve played it. I think for some people it’s almost a reflex. “Which one of you would call the Gestapo on me, and which would watch, relieved, as I was taken from my home in the night?”

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.
