In sincerity I did log on for a reason. A new issue of the Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies is out, edited by colleague/friend Marcel Elias. It's about how to do postcolonial medieval studies bigger and better. You'll like it. (I'm in there). Go read.

I'll take a look. In my astrolabe piece, I argued that Sæmund Sigfússon (fl. 1056–1133) brought astrolabe texts from Lotharingia to Iceland. Right now, I'm thinking about similar connections to Saxony in the 12th century.

Perfect, thank you so much! Answers that refer to literature are the best, especially since of the three, I am only familiar with Gullicks' work (but on English scriptoria).

Is it possible to attribute Danish, or any Scandinavian, manuscripts to specific scriptoria on the basis of their hands? Or is this difficult?

Our aphorism for the "Übergangszeit":

(III.4)

"When during the seasons there is now heat, then cold on the same day, one must expect diseases to be autumnal."

Nothing is certain anymore. I sometimes wonder what would happen if they took Google Books away from us.

Oh boy! I guess you'll just have to go to Vienna and see the crown for yourself. Or you could buy it.😉

Another gem - literally speaking this time - from today's trip to Sorø. The ring found in the grave of Archbishop Absalon of Lund (r.1177-92). The stone is a Sri Lanka sapphire, testifying to the wide reach of Afro-Eurasian trade networks in the Middle Ages.
A gold ring with a flat pyramidical top in which is inlaid a violet sapphire.
