that said: this is the home run of judge's career, for sure. how in the fucking world did he hit this pitch (100 mph!!!!) out of the park? bsky.app/profile/benj...
they lost that game (not his fault) and haven't won a world series in his tenure (partially his fault) but i would expect national (and, frankly) local baseball writers to have a longer memory than a goldfish with dementia
i am a yankee sicko so this stuff doesn't land perhaps outside of that world, but this was an 8th inning two-run, game-tying shot with two outs and two strikes in game 3 of the ALCS on the road against the game's best closer that year -- 100 on the black, btw
i too am glad about judge's "moment" last night, and while i don't think we need to lie about his postseasons, we also don't need to lie in the other direction. he also did this in a pretty big spot last year:
and i am sure that there are Takes to be Had about NYPD funding in this context but it's objectively bad that the president has no idea what's going on at any time and it has huge impacts on important things. feels kitchen table to me
there is a lot to say about the politics or wisdom of RAD conversions, but all of it misses the point that these buildings are falling apart, they're dangerous to everyone, and NYC needs to do something about it: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/01/n...
i'll grant you the 2009 angels if i'm feeling generous due to 2000s PTSD but otherwise, a million beatdowns of the AL central and one random demolition of the As in a wild card. sick of it!
anyway. in happier news, it's time for the yanks to win some playoff series against a rival. it hasn't happened since 2012 and that was fake rivals (orioles), and hasn't properly happened since boone in 2003
it's honestly pretty disturbing to log on here at 8:30 am to post about the yankees and see 500 people just religiously watching pete hegseth scream at generals. you don't need to do that!
@mikeaxisa.bsky.social l threw some judge heat in the (always excellent) @riveraveblues.bsky.social newsletter today. judge is special among special players (and closed the season with an MVP stretch)
"we" do for sure -- despite his pretty comprehensive capture of the MLB narrative most seasons. don't forget: he posted a career-low K% this season as well.
aaron judge is the obvious AL MVP and frankly it’s not even a debate. that said, it’s not some outrage if raleigh wins. he’s having an incredible, all-time, historic season, but still the second-most valuable in the AL. sorry! but it’s true
even william lloyd garrison, probably the most militantly anti-american (white) abolitionist in the 19th century who famously burned the constitution on stage and decried it as a "covenant with death", advocated for the 13th amendment.
and, to boot, there is a rich history of american protest movements and progressive reform doing just this. MLK, frederick douglass, et al. all had their incendiary rhetoric, but they were also very patriotic and understood the country as an experiment toward some greater ideal.
it's why i like no kings framing, but also, embrace the constitution and civil liberties and freedom. people are flawed but not total idiots -- they don't need a lot of hand-holding on stuff like jimmy kimmel
