This is a fantastic day for Australian chemistry. First Australian chemistry Nobel prize since John Cornforth in 1975, but Richard Robson's work is at least as impactful. #ozchem

Fantastic to see one of my chemical heroes, Richard Robson, winning the Nobel Prize for coordination frameworks (MOFs), together with Kitagawa and Yaghi. #ozchem

How easy is it to fudge your scientific rank? Meet Larry, the world’s most cited cat www.science.org/content/arti...

"More than 130 citations in 4 years." Meow, Larry!

Oh wait. “All you have to do is put some fake papers on ResearchGate.” And buy citations.

Critical: Let's clean up research!

Australian Proteomics Analysis Facility (APAF) celebrating 30 year anniversary. Had a good morning on the past, present, and future of proteomics by the pioneers in the field, including Prof. Nicki Packer @sugar-princess.bsky.social, and Prof Mark Wilkins, who famously invented the word "Proteome"

When glycan recognition is linked to immune response, you need fine tuning! 😎

Here ⬇️ we show how human Siglecs act as molecular precision tools, recognising the glycan and also the biological environment (or context) these glycans are found in. A 1/5 #glycotime🧵 ⬇️

doi.org/10.1101/2025...
Schematic representation of the 14 human siglecs, 4 evolutionarily conserved on the left, with low sequence similarity, and 10 on the right sharing a higher sequence similarity to CD33. Siglec-6 is highlighted in yellow as it is the focus of this work. This is Figure 1 in the paper

By deep characterisation of 186 N-glycan standards, we @thencfg.bsky.social have made the most comprehensive targeted LC-MS glycomic assay to date.
Non-reduced native glycan analysis is key.
We hope this enables anyone with QqQ and interest in #glycotime to measure specific N-glycan structures.

Resonated so well with so many speakers that it gets quoted by almost every planery talk that follows on. #Glyco27 @sugar-princess.bsky.social

Picture this: your fav protein-protein interaction is *entirely* dependent on,
1) glycans 💥
2) the type of glycans 🤯💜

A POGase is a huge advance in the glycomics field, which has typically relied on chemical or incomplete enzymatic releases (no Sia).
Expect a lot of multi-omic studies enabled by this (N-glycomics, O-glycomics, and proteomics) since the peptide backbone is left intact.

Had a great time at GlycoBioTec2025 (www.mpi-magdeburg.mpg.de/glycobiotec2...), held once every 2 years, with a good amount of industry participants. Furthermore, food at Harnack Haus is fabulous!
