Ooh. Kid! Don’t shake me! - (he/him) - account posts mostly nonsense, infosec, software development, board games, rpgs. Trans rights are human rights.
You know, this thread is a whole lot of words that I, a steadfast big bonk boy cannot read.

I've noticed that there's been a couple places I've ordered from who ambushed me with DoorDash so I think DoorDash may be selling as a white-label service, but then not changing their update service to remove the DoorDash logos?

Sitting out reading philosophy under an apple tree?

Oof, big rip to the flood geology lovers.

Also... I can't remember if DQXI does this, but perhaps if auto-battle was given first without telling me it was on, and then later breaking out a "if you want to do it yourself" thing, then maybe my brain would be less suspicious?

But what if my dude bops the wrong gorbo with the wrong doodad?

Upon reflection, my interest in turn-based rpgs is primarily story and then the tactics, so ceding the part that my brain likes second best doesn't come with a equivalent interest in other mechanics (or if the story doesn't hook me)

Excuse my ignorance, but what does it do/how SHOULD it work? I think that since I missed the PS1-2 era of JRPGs I may not understand it properly. How does it offset my gut feeling that I will eventually be bored/lose engagement by not making decisions? (Yes, even if the decisions are boring too)

Until stores disappeared we used to call this window shopping.

The chicken is an upgrade to the experience IMO.

She’s gorgeous.

I'm not saying that the earlier Marvel movies are Great/All Timers, but I do think that people discount the sheer novelty of seeing a string of movies a) share a strong continuity, b) finally crack the non-batman superhero nut, and c) the apex of ensemble protagonist stories in a post-buffy world.

Manchego is very good too, there used to be some I really liked from Costco. We typically served it with sliced pears.

At the moment it’s the Trader Joe’s 1000 day Gouda, but I prefer it by itself so with vegetables and meat we’re having a nice sharp English cheddar, and an “ordinary” Brie

I also love a good slice of Stilton, but the kid didn’t want moldy cheese this time

I guess the answer is give me more cheese.

I don’t remember it being that hard to follow, but also I only read it because we watched it in English period during the last week of high school after AP tests.

I’m grateful for all the decisions made designing Delta Green, even (maybe especially) the ones I disagree with.

Ideas are easy, making something is hard.

Same, first initial last name here. The dot in your username is optional btw, hth.

I’ve gotten encrypted military documents, a copy of someone’s Australian Visa, several job interviews, a picture of the ring someone was going to propose with, and a couple of court documents.

fool me once: shame on you

fool me twice: shame on me

fool me three times: damn that’s crazy
3 times rates a "damn that's crazy" from me about pretty much anything bad that happens to you, sorry

Unless you’re arguing that the death of monoculture due to the internet making “the long tail” the norm (through democratization of taste via higher exposure and fewer gatekeepers) is also a sign of creeping fascism.

I believe that it is the fascists who would want to enforce universal meaning.

What are you talking about? 6-7 does have a source. It’s a reference to a specific cultural touchpoint (skrillex/nba/lamelo ball/bait and switch TikTok video culture)

All memetic references mutate or become diffuse over time (c.f. The cool S, OK, Hello, doge)

It’s just faster now and you’re older

Eco is a FAR better writer than Brin.

Brin is a good sci-fi author, but eco blows him away.

Sundiver and Name of the Rose are both recommends in my book.

A warning that the rest of the Uplift trilogy is good, but very tonally different than the claustrophobic mystery that is Sundiver.

Name of the Rose is so good, though, too. So many layers upon layers to unfold.

Why don’t they ever play something badass, you know? Like REO Speedwagon.
