I suspect the poor people you interact with (artists, actors, musicians, writers etc) are probably left wing. But the vast majority of the poor that I interact with in my rural area are quite vehemently the opposite.

Hmmm.... I'm not convinced. The argument may work on racial lines, but in general I doubt that poor people are more left-leaning and in fact research bears this out.
