Hey Bluesky, could you help me spread the word about my Patreon? Signing on as a patron is probably the best way to help keep me afloat as a fabric artist, writer and human being. My goal for the weekend is to get one new patron.

Big fan of Tremblay. Horror Movie is creepy, told in three layers of past, script and present.

I’m going to look into this one. “Subtly uncanny” sounds right up my alley.
“This is a great collection of gently horrifying short stories,” says a recent review of ‘Intervals of Darkness’: “Subtly uncanny, they take place in familiar places: the recognisably bland parts of modern England and its recent ancestors.”

(Reviews always welcome and very helpful, by the way.)
Between them ‘Municipal Gothic’ and ‘Intervals of Darkness’ have 27 stories full of haunted buildings, haunted people, and working class weirdness. Obviously *I* think they're great – but so do strangers who owe me nothing!

Why did it take me 30 years to re-read this one? It’s superb. The women are fully portrayed, flesh and wounds, warts and beauty. The wimpy, whiny, vain male characters with their fragile egos are just props to drive the narrative, mirrored through the eyes of their women but Atwood does it SO WELL.

Gretchen Felkner-Martin, “Cuckoo” is grimy, slimy body horror, mixed with the desperate isolation of teenagers dumped by their families in a conversion camp.
It’s scary and terrifying and entertaining at the same time.

“My Mother Wore A Yellow Dress” by Christina McKenna.
With warm language and quiet humor she tells us about the loveless childhood, fear inducing school and learning how to break the family tradition and find wonder and love. There’s a pivotal tale of the haunting by Great-Aunt Rose.
