(Cont.) Something that makes @datlow.bsky.social a great short story editor is her razor-sharp eye on structure (hardly my strong suit). When I submitted the 1st draft of "Charged", she noted that the story's 1st line should be the bold statement I'd originally hidden halfway down the 1st page:

Additionally, on my authorial bucket-list was to be in an @datlow.bsky.social anthology. As I write in very specific genres (Historical / Gaslamp Fantasy) it had to be the right thing. She graciously chose "Charged" for Queen Victoria's Book of Spells, a story my readers consider one of my best.
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

I've had 3 stories edited by Samantha Kolesnik, which makes them special. Those anthologies went out of print years ago.

But thanks to @datlow.bsky.social @manylittlewords.bsky.social & @nefariousbatpress.bsky.social, the stories are back in new books 🖤 hopefully Sam's novellas will follow someday.

Tanith Lee's oeuvre is one I hope to explore some day. "Black and White Sky" appeared in @datlow.bsky.social's THE BEST OF THE BEST HORROR OF THE YEAR. I read it around 2018 and it's haunted me ever since.

The beautiful bird has settled at the Battery in downtown New York following a lengthy stay in the quiet gardens of Roosevelt Island and a brief, chaotic stint in Midtown Manhattan. She's the only wild turkey in Manhattan.

Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth just launched a sham investigation into me for my support for Ukraine, all because I demanded Trump’s call transcripts with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman be released.

Instead of transparency, I was met with retaliation.

It gets lost in the shuffle, but the Speaker of the House is someone who, by all rights, should’ve had his career ended a decade ago by a Shreveport TV news investigative team.
Fond memories of that time Mike Johnson was president of a local law school that never opened its doors, in part because it was attached to a Baptist college that was losing its accreditation, and in part because it was always a scam from the start
Mike Johnson -- who is, yes, theoretically a lawyer -- has not had a chance to look at the American Constitution because he's been very busy lately, folks, he just can't see everything, gosh, how is he supposed to know if it's wrong that the president called for the execution of congress members?

The GOP got blown out in special elections coast to coast, but still people look for reasons not to vote
Oh that's cute. Given all the efforts Trump and his GOP henchmen are going to, you think there will still be fair elections. I guess then that it will be a prerequisite that he succeeds in stealing an election before his government can be call fascist.
