This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.
We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.
We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

I appreciate this for making me feel less exhausted by the news.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

SCOOP: Schumer was more involved than reported with the attempted cave on the government shutdown. The Gang of 8 Senate Dems had his approval & he was getting daily updates.
In Thursday's caucus meeting, the Gang claimed they had 10 votes to cave. The caucus went nuts, leading to the new proposal.

And you can impeach any appointed officer! Impeach Hegseth! RFK! You might even get some GOP votes for them!
Impeachment is like a sword rusted into its scabbard. It hasn’t been used much, so people assume it’s not useful. But when you need a sword and it’s the only weapon you have, maybe you’ll oil it up, sharpen the blade, swing it around some. Test it on some lesser demons. Think of new ways to use it.

On Pelosi retiring:
Younger folk may not remember just how fucking bad the House leadership was before her. Gephardt wasn't a bad person but he was at the top of a long list of hapless failures as leader.
Pelosi won a ton of critical votes. She's overdue to leave. But she was well above average.
