As promised! In today’s article, I write about contemporary culture’s interest in “civilizing” monsters, how Magic engages in this work, and whether the game’s narrative and mechanics might hardwire essentialism into its worldbuilding—give a read!

I’ve posted a lot about this project but this is the culmination: the Through the Omenpaths Flavoring Project finished the very weekend of Avatar prerelease.

it’s really moving to see a Magic world emerge from the bottom up, not from the other way around.

For @hipstersofthecoast.com today I wrote about the experimental storytelling and artistic possibilities that might linger in one of the most infamously commodified Magic products: Secret Lairs. Give it a read!

Let me post some art since I haven't done that in a while. 🫠 It's spooky season so how about an illustration of some cranky old lady ghosts?

now that I’ve spent less than $20 buying 25/45 of the cards Kirschner illustrated, what other artists are worth collecting for visual alone??
Scott Kirschner’s art is full of quiet, primal horror. etchings on cave walls and potsherds, the hint of unimaginable monsters that human tools can barely capture and that human memory cannot recall

IT'S '6-7', COOPER. A GENERATION ALPHA TREND. WHAT THEY CALL A 'MAY-MAY'. IT'S AN ORPHANED SIGNIFIER, NO SIGNS ATTACHED. ONE COULD CALL IT DADAIST, BUT SOMME SAY IT'S TOO STUPID TO BE DADA. IT'S ANTI-MEANING, ANTI-HUMOUR, BUT DAMN IF THOSE KIDS DON'T FIND IT A CRACK-UP.
