Durbin to Bhattacharya: "I can't understand it. I disagree w/ this admin on so many things. But this is the one that really gets to me personally. To think this nation would walk away from medical research. For God's sake...cancer, your budget requests a 38% cut to the National Cancer Institute"

Another beautiful example of NIH-SPONSORED bedside to bench and back to bedside work from an outstanding clinician scientist. This work is producing some of the most compelling responses to treatment in what is arguably the worst pediatric brain tumor.
‘The first experiments produced just jaw-dropping results’
Stanford neuro-oncologist Michelle Monje is pursuing a cure for a deadly pediatric brain cancer – and reshaping our understanding of how cancer and brain development intersect.

In today's Nature: "These cutbacks put the entire US research enterprise at risk. For more than 8 decades, the US has stood unrivalled as the world’s leader in scientific discovery and technological innovation. US universities spin off more than 1,100 science-based start-up companies each year.."

America will be less healthy & less safe as a result of Peter Marks' forced resignation from FDA. He & FDA protected us from people who enrich themselves selling snake oil: unproven stem cell therapies, vaccine alternatives, other fake treatments. Thank you for all you did for public health Peter.
