finally finished a painting i've been cooking in my mind for a few years! shadowgast as The Devil, one of my favorite tarot cards and one of the three cards i associate with their relationship

the characters are facing each other, with Essek standing on the left and Caleb on the right. their right hands are raised between them, hovering under and over a floating hourglass that Essek is offering to Caleb; the violet sand in it is equally distributed between the top and the bottom halves and is not flowing down. Essek has his chin raised with a cool expression of confidence, while Caleb is looking at the hourglass with a deeply conflicted face, his eyebrows furrowed and eyes shining. Hey kids! Wanna see me paint myself into a corner over a costume design detail?
Finding a design for the arm armor of this character while following the design direction I have for their culture AND maintaining a readable silhouette has proven to be... tricky.

A sketch page filled with iteration of the same character over and over. The character is an armored Earthen (dwarf-like ancestry). The sketches are focused on the arm part of the armor, with articulated, cloth, mail, and even naked shoulder variations.

2025 collection of doodles and things

my sketches have always been really rough but especially this year, art was a struggle and i stopped caring how most things looked just to get anything drawn at all, even if it never went beyond a mess of lines
i still enjoy seeing them all together in the end
