Meet the “squidworm” 🦑🪱

Discovered by WHOI biologist Larry Madin and colleagues, this 4-inch-long animal was just one of roughly 6,000 new species uncovered during the Census of Marine Life, a decade-long global effort involving more than 2,700 scientists to explore and document ocean life.

Paris-Berlin sleeper: low carbon, 2 years old, constantly full, but currently losing SNCF a few million EUR/yr

Intl Jet fuel tax exemptions are 80 years old and cost the EU 22 million EUR/yr for the Paris-Berlin route alone.

And you're cutting... the sleeper?

wow the Norwegian government is so climate conscious, i wonder how they managed to promote EV use so heavily while still maintaining a balanced budget
janrosenow.bsky.social
It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.

Times reports "soaring" number of Britons think climate change is exaggerated

Well, not really - they're still in a heavy minority

Not good news but tbh given relentless tide of shite about climate action served up by RW media I'm pleased it isn't worse

Just woke up from a social media pause and the first thing I see is an incredible footage of a sperm whale casually cruising with a giant squid in its mouth ??

🦑 🌊 🌿
Vertical photo of a sperm whale with a giant squid in its mouth. The tentacles and body of the squid can be seen emerging between the teeth. Ventral view of the same scene : a sperm whale with a giant squid in its mouth. The tentacles and body of the squid can be seen emerging between the teeth.

This is the best explanation of the weird new ant paper.
essaywells.bsky.social
The paper has helpful diagrams and it's WILD. They clone the other species so they can produce sterile hybrid workers. It's like if a horse could occasionally give birth to a donkey deliberately so they can make mules to serve them while they sit on their... horse throne... as horse queens do.

This will continue to fuel thinking and debate on the net value or harm of Antarctic tourism. The average tourist trip emits more carbon than a typical European does in a year.

To pay it off, tourism needs to generate a huge post-cruise benefit to the climate.

Fancy a trip to Antarctica? Research reveals 'significant' carbon footprint
More than 100,000 international tourists — including almost 10,000 Australians — travel to Antarctica each year. But a new study shows that getting there creates a significant carbon footprint.
