I'm not even a pastry girl but chocolate gets my acid reflux going and all the other snacks are sold in tiny child-size bags, so I'm always straight to the bakery section of the combini when I want a sweet treat now

My personal suspicion is this: that anecdote is borderline bullshit. I doubt it happened as described. Maybe you drive 2 hours for a really good loaf of bread versus Wonder Bread. It just sounds too dumb to be 100% what is being described.

We put a pond in our back yard.
Year 2 - we literally had hundreds of tadpoles.
We could throw a slice of bread in and watch it spin around as they attacked it. They pretty much all survived. it got real noisy at night.
year 3. Numbers stabilised as most of the tadpoles were eaten by

They turned out really well. Sort of like a cake texture in the middle; the recipe required bread flour and the starter so I guess expected. I did over mix more than the recipe required but they just look like regular cookies 2 me. Maybe if I wanted them denser? Idk. Overall good.
