hey abc7, are the anarchists in the room with us?

c’mon guys they’re just doing normal law enforcement stuff like hiding their identities and kidnapping people and brutalizing protesters and violating the constitution
"These are law enforcement operations, and these are law enforcement officers that are doing what they were sworn to do, and you can't interfere. The more people resist this in a violent fashion, the more violence is going to be used to defend the officers," Kushner said.

New: Broadview, IL Mayor Katrina Thompson issued an executive order today - her first this year - limiting protest outside the Broadview ICE facility to between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The order cites "recent escalation of violence by ICE" at the facility as reason to restrict protest there.

👀 still looking for info on this. if you recognize this patch, hmu.

spotted this patch on what looks to be an hsi agent outside broadview today.

anyone know what “dst” stands for?
a round patch that reads “u.s. department of homeland security. chicago.”

the inner part of the patch shows an american flag behind what looks like a skyline or maybe a ship? above the flag reads “HSI-chicago” and below it reads “DST.”

One thing to understand about what's happening now is that on Oct 1, the deportation machine's budget increased dramatically: $170 billion in NEW funding, averaging to $42.5 billion per year. That's just below the Israeli military's annual budget. It's the equivalent of 13th biggest army on earth.

border patrol agents are holding a line against protesters side-by-side with broadview police, oak brook police, illinois state police, + the cook county sheriff’s office.

feds made a huge push to clear everyone from harvard street, which ice uses to enter and leave the broadview detention center.

what can state officials do?

honestly idk. we’re seeing the direct result of years of expanded executive power, particularly with regard to “national security” in the post-9/11 era.

but i think it’s clear to everyone seeing what’s happening in our communities that doing *nothing* is not an option.
mulchy.bsky.social
this part.

the feds are *already* here. they’ve *been* here, tear-gassing neighborhoods, abducting people from their cars and homes with helicopters and bearcats, beating and arresting protesters.

so far, the state’s response has been to just let them do it—and to send in the police to help them.

ICE is doing a hell of a lot of harm in the Chicago area *right now.* I don’t mean to trivialize the national guard stuff, it absolutely is an irresponsible escalation, but the guard-centric convo around this really does understate what’s going on without any guardsmen.

I cannot express enough how this is what has been happening for some time in Broadview. Federal agents assault, shoot chemical munitions at, and arrest protesters completely unprovoked.

And state police are now helping border patrol to combat and arrest protesters.

Great work everyone.

moments ago: pandemonium.

a huge mass of border patrol agents, led by greg bovino, pushed the crowd of protesters and started grabbing people at random.

leading up to this, folks were just calmly standing in the grass, following isp’s orders.

multiple people detained. no clue how many.

Witness video shows federal agents throwing tear gas canisters in the middle of Armitage Ave today as they appear to be blocked in and heckled by angry neighbors.

This is around the 3500 block of West Armitage.

Chicago Ald. Jessie Fuentes' office has released video of federal agents handcuffing her at Humboldt Park Health, as she asked them to present a judicial warrant for another arrest.

the illinois department of transportation is installing concrete barriers along the sides of harvard street, along where protesters were standing this morning.

a changing of the guard.

these officers are with the mobile field force for nipas (northern illinois police alarm system).

nipas is a collection of police from various agencies that share resources and personnel. the mobile field force is their crowd control team.

things have calmed down. the crowd of protesters has thinned considerably over the past hour, like it has in past weeks after border patrol made a violent push.

a spirited group is chanting at the state police, “turn around and arrest those guys. the criminals on the other side.”
