Wait, how should it be pronounced?
museum-wanderer.bsky.social
I don’t know that the DC area has a lot of these. Bowie, MD. What else?
merriam-webster.com
What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Washington DC, our nation’s capital, now has ZERO daily newspapers worthy of the name. It’s embarrassing.

I can’t believe how little ink @washingtonpost.com is giving to the shutdown. I feel like it was full of updates last time.

I have the same model, inherited from my grandmother, and I don’t have space to actually use it. It’s yours if you want it.
museum-wanderer.bsky.social
Same. I have placed like one or two orders since, for little things I literally could not find elsewhere.

I didn’t really care about Prime Day even when I had Prime. The deals are not that great, and they were never for anything I actually needed.

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

Ooh, that’s fantastic. Non-representational art usually doesn’t move me but I felt this one.

Gorgeous. And that necklace! 💖

Does it have illustration plates? May try to track one down for collage purposes.

After trillions of Euro in investment and years of grueling (and some say dangerous) experimentation, the Large Pasta Collider has yielded another critical breakthrough in the fundamental physics of pasta dishes.
Phase behavior of Cacio e Pepe sauce
``Pasta alla Cacio e pepe'' is a traditional Italian dish made with pasta, pecorino cheese, and pepper. Despite its simple ingredient list, achieving the perfect texture and creaminess of the sauce ca...

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Some of my octopus prints for World Octopus Day this October 8! 🧪🐡🐙

First up my lino block print of a charming Grimpoteuthis octopus, one of a genus of pelagic cirrate (finned) octopods known as the dumbo octopuses. The fins reminded scientists of ears of the elephant in Disney’s 1941 film Dumbo.
My 9.25” x 12.5” Lino block print of a Grimpoteuthis octopus, one of a genus of pelagic cirrate (finned) octopods known as the dumbo octopuses. The octopus is mostly bluish with red at the top and on its ear-like fins. Its tentacles are brown and all spiralling up close to its body. The dark water around it is blue-black.

Sweeter Than Truth - oil on canvas - 46x50 inches - October 2000
Wow, 25 years ago, I finished this one. More info in alt text.
#oilpainting #art #fineart #contemporaryart #surrealism
Back 2000, I didn’t know any other painters who lived near me. It was the only year since I graduated art school that I didn’t exhibit my work somewhere. But every day when I came home from my soul-sucking office job, I went into the studio and gave it all I had. A year later, I’d find a gallery in DC interested in showing my stuff. This one ended up in my first solo show, there. I’ve learned a lot more since then, but I still like this weird thing I made, when I was still figuring out some of the basics of how to do this thing I do.

An oil painting of a human torso on a stylized couch in an otherwise empty interior space. It has no head, just an opening in the neck. It has its arm around a box-like piece of machinery, whose cord trails off the couch and across the floor. A large hose comes out of the top of the box, curling around and depositing a greenish liquid into the torso’s neck orifice. The box has a slot for currency. The torso’s other hand holds som, ready to pay for more.

Nipple? I’d be really concerned about someone who found that sexy, TBH. 😂
