In 2029, more people will be eligible to vote than ever before. But it could also be the year in which more voices than ever are ignored.

That is, unless we change the voting system so that everyone can be heard.

This week the Devolution Bill, which abolishes FPTP for Mayors, passed second reading 🎉

MP after MP got up to highlight the damage this outdated voting system does to our democracy.

Whether we're electing Mayors, councillors or MPs, we need a system where every vote counts.

Are politicians stupid, selfish, corrupt and all the same? Or are they just following the rules of a bad game?

In a thought-provoking blog, MVM volunteer Paul Tait asks us to imagine the UK political system as a casino game. 👇

WE DID IT!!!

The government has just announced that it´s scrapping FPTP for mayoral elections.

In May, this absurd system resulted in some Mayors being elected on as little as 25% of the vote.

This is a victory of communities around the country. But it's just the beginning...
Breaking news: First Past the Post to be scrapped for mayoral elections. Now time for Westminster!

"Our democracy is not working," said @zackpolanski.bsky.social who we spoke to at Glastonbury.

That's why this weekend we'll be taking action for a fair voting system.

"Control of your university fees, welfare system, defence and public infrastructure could be in the hands of a leader supported by less than a third of voters. That is, unless we do something to change it."

The British public overwhelmingly agree: First Past the Post is not working.

We have a government with a huge majority, elected on just a third of the vote.

We have diverse political views and a system that's trying to force us into two camps.

We deserve better. #PRnow

Our activist Samuel called in to LBC this morning 👏👏👏

We agree: if Labour says that it will listen to voters and deliver change, it must listen to the growing numbers of people demanding a fair voting system.

Democracy is a doorstep demand.

A sunny day for our first Witney Street Stall this year. We enjoyed speaking with a number of interested members of the public about the need to replace our outdated and undemocratic voting system with Proportional Representation.

The administrations in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Greater London Assembly all use various types of PR for elections to their devolved assemblies, and the Welsh Senedd has legislated to allow councils in Wales to adopt PR for local elections.

With local elections due to take place across Oxfordshire in May, MVM supporters talked to Charlie about the fact that England is the only part of the United Kingdom that continues to adhere to First Past the Post (FPTP) for local, as well as national, elections.
