It's so weird. I mean, I understand why some people make the 'investing in arts makes money' arguments, but it's depressing to hear them. The whole experience of creating & imagining is outside the mercantile sphere & disrupts it because it has absolutely nothing in common with it.

The arts has become something 'arty' rather than an event that can transform & connect you, make different realities & ways of loving imaginable. At best, art is professionalised so it can be sold, rather than being a revolutionary practice. The more I write, the better I understand this.

I think that's always the rub for me as arts quals are trashed: the life opportunities that have disappeared, especially for young people. All the paths that could have been taken, now obliterated & rendered down to a choice between shitty job or shitty job by people on a min wage of 250k a year.

I try to keep the world amused.
US exceptionalism means that US liberals talk about 'our experiment in democracy', kind of ignoring - or never knowing of - the invasions, destruction of actual democracies the US doesn't like, wars and so on. Not to mention US industrial slavery & structural racism.

Tbh, from here on the other side of the planet, I'm amazed that Americans are saying things like 'When we next have a Democrat president....'. It seems very obvious that there will be no midterms or 2028 election.

Its true. I can reveal that I was called into Antifa HQ today & taken into the lair of our leader, known only as The Subcomandante (seen here in black to conceal his real identity). Apparently I haven't punched enough Nazis this week. He was not pleased.

I learned this when I was counselling: It can be a big light-bulb moment for someone that *talking about stuff* with another person who cares is a game changer. That's why talking therapies can be so helpful, but it's what all relationships should be: Talk fests!

A few years ago, Greta posted that climate change nixed all other issues, incl Palestine. Amazing how she's continued to grow, deconstruct her own position, connect the dots between capitalism, colonialism, climate change etc, turn it into action & maintain her moral centre. That's how it's done.

Impossible for this to happen in Australia. Cultural life is dominated by philistines & the life & work of publicly funded artists would be under constant scrutiny. Only the docile would be anointed. Tbh I'd prefer affordable housing, higher wages & free education & see what that does for the arts.

Breach? Sounds like people gave their data to the government on a promise of disaster support, the government gave their data and our money to a contractor on a promise of service provision, and the contractor gave their data to a tech business on a promise of slop.

Yep. 'Sorry I sexually assaulted 25 women. It was my autism'. It's kind of a problem that autism has become a meme because the public understanding of it is still very poor (see any media story). Anyway, good you could call it out & got thru safely.
