Well, I guess it’s as good a time as any to start reading up on this year’s NHL draft rankings.

@dimfilipovic.bsky.social @thomasdrance.bsky.social I like the moxie from Guerin and I’ll always support going for it but I’m really not sure that even with Hughes the Wild are good enough to get past the Jets when they’re firing on all cylinders much less the Avs or Stars.
I expressed this opinion privately a few times since Friday, but I want to put this on the record.

The Quinn Hughes trade could be a career-defining bad trade for Bill Guérin.

If either he extends in Minnesota or they make a couple of conference finals before he leaves, I say it’s a win.

I gotta say, nothing makes you appreciate NHL refs more than watching an NFL game.

I like the moxie, and always support ‘going for it’, but Vancouver should be extremely happy with the return here.

@wpgmurat.bsky.social I’m with you on the Jets. I think they’re definitely in the convo for a WC slot if not 3rd in central even with the bad month.

Mark Scheifele needs to trim the duster. It’s starting to grow outwards.

Luke Schenn: everyone has to keep pulling each other.

@dimfilipovic.bsky.social @thomasdrance.bsky.social I can’t help but feel that while the Jets have been not good, the reasons for that are varied.

Initially they were getting results with bad underlying metrics.

I blame this on the Lowry, Perfetti and most importantly Samberg injuries.

Clean hit.
They haven't forgotten -- or forgiven -- Mark Scheifele here in Montreal. Loud boos every time he touches the puck.

The Jets’ biggest problem is the injuries on defence.

Dylan Samberg missed 17 games, then a week later, Pionk got injured.

This means we have had Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn playing 2nd pair minutes for long stretches of the season.

Follow up to this rant:

Re: the “embarrassing the veterans” conversation, the only thing I could think of was this iconic line from ‘Superbad’:

I agree with 90% of what Murat had to say today. The Lambert conversation kind of misdiagnoses the Jets main problem (other than Comrie forgetting he’s a plus GSAx goaltender with the Jets).

Great article by two of my favourite people covering the Jets.

I’ve long felt the Jets biggest problem in both the playoffs and this year is the defensive depth (Schenn/Stan/Fleury/Miller) getting stuck in their own end *way* too often.

This is why secondary scoring has been an issue.

As someone who hasn’t watched a lot of moose hockey, I’m really impressed with Milic’s puck handling. Not really used to seeing a goalie in a Jets sweater move the puck with as much confidence and prowess as Milic.

I think the number one thing the Jets need to do is: don’t panic.

Per Moneypuck, Eric Comrie is like -4.6 GSAx over the last three games. Prior to that (and last season), he was always a plus goalie.

We just need league average goaltending from him (or Milic).
Winnipeg has lost three straight and sits three points outside the playoffs, with four teams to pass.

Here are five things the #NHLJets can do to get back on track — before it's too late.

I pretty desperately want to see:

Morrissey-Salomonsson
Samberg-Miller
Stanley-Demelo

And I want to see the exact same deployment as now - Samberg takes the toughest minutes, followed by Morrissey and then Stanley and Demelo against the bottom of the roster.
Elias Salomonsson practiced with Dylan Samberg on the second pair. Scott Arniel says it's not set in stone.

"We'll see how tomorrow goes, what the matchups will be ... (But) there's a lot of similarities between those two guys in how they play, their feet, and how they defend."
Elias Salomonsson is likely making his NHL debut tomorrow.

"It's looking that way," says Scott Arniel.

Neal Pionk is day to day.

@wpgmurat.bsky.social re: trades Jets fans would undo: top of my list with a bullet is trading back with Vegas at the expansion draft. I acknowledge we had to keep Enstrom but there had to have been a better way to do it rather than giving up Nick Suzuki.

Re: Jets

I think people are overreacting to the last two losses and underreacting to the losses on the road trip.

Team played well against a good Carolina squad but took an L

Got PDO’d vs Minnesota but played well.

One of the random movie things I care about for no reason is the ‘Best Original Song’ Oscar and this year is shaping up to be an all-timer.

Golden - Demon Hunters
I Lied to You - Sinners
Highest 2 Lowest

Then I guess some songs from Wicked will round out the category.
