A more important victory is we stop these boat strikes and not succumb to an invasion of Venezuela built on transparent lies (7/6)

And that is NOT a victory. A win here would be in 3-4 years, we roll out comprehensive war crimes proceedings against *everyone* involved in *all* of these boat strikes, not just this last one. That means Democrats need to not take the easy victory Republicans are offering them to save face (6/6)

...attacking them at all is 100% a war crime. What do Democrats get out of this situation? Likely an admiral or some officer becomes Trump's fall guy and people go on CNN and proclaim that we are indeed a democracy which prosecutes its military when it commits war crimes and that won't be true (5/6)

...where the US political community agrees that attacking the shipwrecked is verboten but the boat strikes are acceptable if contested. Let me assure you, that since the administration has not provided a shred of evidence that these so-called "narco-terrorists" are on the boats... (4/6)

Here's the problem: *ALL* of the boat strikes are illegal. The Trump DoD overstepped with this last strike, and they are using it as a way to reshape what is and is not acceptable. My guess is we will leave this situation in a month or so with a *negotiated* view of this situation... (3/6)

To me, this seems more like an intra-party spat than actual war crimes prosecution. This is being turned into a bit of a blame game by Republicans, first going after Hegseth, who now claims to have not given the order. Democrats are in love with this situation, as it gives them a win. (2/6)

And before anyone points out that the US was engaged in more indirect counterterrorism against Al Qaeda before 2011, it is known, but this is an intro class. To get points, all they had to do was write "9/11."

I mean, the first paragraph lays it all out.

The President, VP, and Agency officials, including the head of the Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, told us exactly what they intended to do & then did, which was use pretextual civil rights claims to impose ideological control on universities.
