I’ve sat on this op-ed for 8 months and rather than letting it perish and go unread, I am publishing it myself.

My advice to others, also frustrated that mainstream outlets won’t publish their stories or perspective, is to self publish. /5

As an ally, I am outraged at how normalized this erasure is.

And I see how it happens: people individually make decisions out of fear or opportunism to protect their own interests + avoid a fight with literal bullies.

The result is total erasure of a form of hate & bias. /4

Concurrently, I was organizing against AB 715, the pro-Israel public education censorship bill, witnessing the same discomfort amongst state legislators & mainstream media outlets.

They were too afraid to talk about how Palestine was being censored. /3

In parallel, I noticed that the few officials who did publicly condemn the incident did not address that it happened because I was wearing a keffiyeh or name 'anti-Palestinian racism,' specifically. /2

And Mandelman, whose pattern of behavior of abusively yelling at people & staff (including me), doesn’t even condemn the behavior towards his aide. Because he knows he’s in a glass house.

We deserve actual leadership from our elected leaders.
