Lipid imaging on the cover of @nature.com! Great times for lipid cell biology indeed. And a fantastic recognition of all the hard work by the team, especially Juan M. Iglesias-Artola and Kristin Böhlig (who made the cover). Link to article: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New preprint from the lab! We discovered a transient fluidization in the basal region of human forebrains by tracking microdroplets in cerebral organoids. This “basal fluidization”, absent in gorilla and mouse, may contribute to greater surface expansion in human forebrains

Cool. Really cool. You kind of expect it from Reto.

Excited to share our work with Eranthie Weerapana and Tim van Opijnen, co-led by Conor Loynd, Soumya Roy, and Sarah Canarelli! We introduce a new generation of BONCAT tools for the versatile characterization of newly synthesized proteins in pathogenic bacteria. rdcu.be/eI4M5
Cell-selective multiplexed bioorthogonal noncanonical amino acid tagging for nascent proteomics
Nature Chemical Biology - Engineered aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase (aaRS) mutants have been developed that facilitate ultrafast bioorthogonal noncanonical amino acid tagging (BONCAT) of newly...

Very exciting work. Shows how interfering with the levels of one lipid class leads to changes of other lipids that are not directly metabolically connected as the cell tries to maintain both lipid flux balance and biophysical membrane properties.
