90° Galvanometric image rotator.

A bit harder to do than expected, but I’m also getting rusty.

Also need to tighten everything…

Daycare closed, so Naomi did some hyperspectral single molecule localization microscopy at home.

She figured out the Cramér-Rao lower bound all by herself.

We have two funded postdoctoral positions available. Topics encompass:

-Next gen light-sheet fluorescence microscopy instrumentation

-Structured illumination microscopy and other approaches to extend the resolution limit.

-Nonlinear microscopy combined with adaptive optics / phase conjugation

In the Soviet Union, there were different levels of “news” (referred to as red and white TASS).

The public received the highly redacted version that left out internal disasters and some world events.

Party officials got the actual world news as classified information.

We lost a giant in public health today.

Dr. William H. Foege helped eradicate #smallpox - the only human disease ever eliminated—through science, surveillance, and vaccines.

His legacy is the antidote to today’s antiscience, anti-vaccine rhetoric.

So excited to share the preprint with the bulk of my PhD work in the Beach @myosincity.bsky.social and Oakes @pwoakes.bsky.social Labs at Loyola University Chicago! We investigate the structure, recruitment, and function of septin networks around the nucleus. A thread:

We started the farewelk proceedings for @bingyingchen.bsky.social which included a climbing outing (Bingying is an expert climber).

That was a lot of fun. I was toast after climbing three bunny walls (Figure 1).

Bingying showed us some “free solo” level climbs. Impressive.

It is not good coverage, but the few trains in the US can be pretty good if you can make your trip work.

Also dirt cheap. DART costs me an order of magnitude less than an UBER ($3 vs $50).
