A couple of weeks ago, @lucymorgan.bsky.social at @glamour.com asked me to cover the brilliant Goal Diggers’s continuing fight for their trans teammates in the face of the FA’s ban. #LetTheDollsPlay

Ollie Pope’s position was untenable, but batting 3 and taking no form into the Boxing Day Test at 3-0 down is a tough gig for Jacob Bethell.

With Jofra Archer now injured, the pace attack now looks…it’s too quick to be popgun, but it doesn’t scream reliable or consistent.

I'm old enough to remember when the Post launched its first podcast, which was just a person — an actual human, not a bot — reading one of the stories in that day's paper. That person was me.

Absolutely wild stat out of Mount Maunganui.

First class cricket has been played for 253 years. In that time, no opening pair had ever both scored hundreds in both innings.

Tom Latham and Devon Conway just did.

Ben Stokes has produced some of the most astonishing cricket you’ll ever see.

But his overall, everyday batting is sorely lacking middle gears. If he had even a bit of Root or Smith’s ability to knock good balls into gaps and get singles…but instead, it’s grim stonewalling or furious destruction.

Since the retirement of Ashwin, the margin by which Nathan Lyon is the best spinner in Test cricket is ridiculous. Even his bad balls have more going for them than a lot of spinners’ good balls - the drift, the loop, the dip, the sheer energy.

The Australian press think 🇦🇺 threw away their advantage by losing cheap wickets.

The English press think 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 threw away their advantage by not capitalising more on 🇦🇺 losing those cheap wickets.

Both sides are unhappy, no-one’s on top. All in all, pretty good day 1 of a Test.

England have already squandered the opportunity of not having to face Cummins, Hazelwood or Lyon for two Tests - if they don’t capitalise on not having to bowl at Smith…

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

It’s a measure of how badly the #MensAshes has gone for England that Hazlewood being ruled out for all of it feels almost irrelevant. To be honest, so does Wood going home.

McCullum & Stokes’ biggest challenge at Adelaide is going to be re-establishing any sense that this is a live series.
December 9, 2025 at 10:11 AM
I do get that people see England as stubbornly optimistic to the point of denying reality. I’ve been just as frustrated by it as anyone.

But now Stokes and McCullum have both given unvarnished public criticism of their team, we are going to see people jumping on them for that. You can’t have both.
December 7, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Given that all of England’s specialist quicks can handle themselves with the bat, interesting to see how Stokes plays this. This is usually the point where he goes from a normal batter to some sort of rampaging comic book villain trying to burn down the world single-handedly.

Leah Williamson and Kim Little warming up got a bigger cheer than the goal. You suspect a direct correlation between the scoreline and how many minutes they get.

This is nowhere near as bad as England were in 21/22. Or most of 17/18. Or 13/14, or 06/07…you get the idea.

But going 2-0 down to a an Australia team without Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood or in any meaningful sense Nathan Lyon would be one of the most disappointing #MensAshes performances ever.
December 6, 2025 at 11:24 AM
One off, I’ll take that. Taylor Hinds starts at left-back, so both summer signings from Liverpool face their old club. Steph Catley captains.

McCabe, Williamson, Little all on a bench that also includes 17 yo keeper Amy Liddiard & the seemingly soon to depart Jenna Nighswonger.

#TeamsIdLikeToSee for Arsenal against Liverpool today:

Anneke Borbe; Emily Fox, Lotte-Wubben Moy, Steph Catley, Katie McCabe; Mariona Caldentey, Kyra Cooney-Cross; Olivia Smith, Frida Leonhardsen Maanum, Beth Mead; Alessia Russo

No need to risk Leah Williamson or Kim Little from the start, surely?

🔴Leah Williamson and Kim Little available and in the squad tomorrow
🔴Daphne van Domselaar (quad tendon) and Chloe Kelly (knee) not available and unlikely to be back before the winter break

What an odd career Justin Greaves has had.

12 Tests in, 50% of his runs have come in two unbeaten tons, one a match-winner, one a match-saver. He’s only made one other 50.

His 4 top scores are all not out, they’re his only not outs. It’s like he’s been playing under self-imposed stunt conditions.

#StatWatch Mitchell Starc’s the first to take a five-for and score a 50 in the same #MensAshes Test since Mitchell Johnson, also at the Gabba, in 2013.
