Asters are still doing well here in the UK and, as you say, the bees are loving them 🌱🐝

Fall is here and the nights are getting cold. And while pollinators are preparing for winter, having some late flowers can help them survive the cold. Here in western WA, our native Douglas asters still have some flowers. I'm slowly planting more for late season flowers to support our pollinators. 🌱
Not a lot of flowers left, but they are among the last native flowers in our area. They have small daisy like lavender flowers with yellow centers. They start blooming in mid-summer and keep going into October. In this picture older blossoms have turned to small seed heads.

It’s rutting season here in the UK. This guy wasn’t going to let a lake stand in his way (where he started from he had to swim , it was more than neck deep)

15 UK banks ordered to snoop on state pensioners and other benefit claimants under DWP crackdown.

No court order needed. No right of appeal.

Banks will pass cost to other customers.

Those accused of fraud won't get legal advice. The making of another Post Office type scandal.

Thank you 🙏.
I was lucky enough (my grandchildren might have been even luckier) to find a Jean Greenhowe pattern book in a charity shop and have knitted lots from it 🧶

“I would gently point out to Nigel Farage that before we left the EU we had a returns agreement with every country in the EU. He told the country it would make no difference if we left. He was wrong about that. These are Farage boats in many senses coming across the channel” 👏

Fall is here!

We gotta tell our neighbors: leave those leaves to support biodiversity! Hang posters in public spaces to spread the word. Most people don't know how important it is!

I will be away from 10/11-11/3, so can't ship anything. To get in on this project, order ASAP squidfacts.net
A poster hanging on a brick wall that says Leave your leaves for lightning bugs! with lightning bugs on new purple asters . There's too-small-to-read text in a box with the heading Lightning bugs are struggling to survive, help them thrive by taking these actions. The actions are: 1) Leave your leaves. Lightning bug babies live in fallen leaves. When we send away our leaves, we kill the babies! Leave your leaves on the ground, or pile them in a corner.
2) Don't use Pesticides. Pesticides kill lightning bugs! Cut them out of your yard care routine.
3) Turn off the lights. Lightning bugs need darkness to communicate.
4) Tell your friends! Our actions become much more powerful when we take them as a community. Get your friends and family involved too.

The tide has turned for our oceans.

60 countries have ratified the High Seas Treaty, entering into force in early 2026.

A historic first to protect biodiversity beyond national waters through marine protected areas, enforceable sustainability, and shared responsibility ↓

An image with a dark blue background features a single glowing orange jellyfish in the centre. Around it is simple, dashed-line drawings of various marine animals, including a shark, different types of fish, and small schools of fish. In the top half of the image, white text reads, “About 91% of ocean species are yet to be discovered.” Below, more white text says, “60 countries have just made history to protect their future.” In the bottom right corner, there is a logo of the European Commission.

So, Sunday Times runs with latest poll showing Farage winning if there was an election now. But makes NO mention of Reform’s collusion with Russia. And this is how democracy gets beaten to death in the dark. Voters are not being told the truth. Reform is given the stage but is NEVER held to account.

Sewage was dumped into the Mersey 1,900 times in 2024. Since leaving the EU, the UK has slipped on water and air standards while Europe pushes ahead with tougher protections.

Via The Independent: Donald Trump’s false claim that London ‘wants to go to Sharia law’ has been described as ‘appalling and bigoted’ by Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The Muslim Council of Britain responded: “We pray for Mr Trump's health and wellbeing as his hallucinations seem to be getting worse by the day”
