Star Trek, Restoration, Nature, Autistic/Neurodivergent Rights, and Opposing Fascism -- Make it so!
Busy weekend out getting logs and wood chips for my restoration work. This is the third load of logs and I got about 3 cubic yards of wood chips. I also salvaged 3 native hazelnuts and 2 native red osier dogwoods and planted them today. Fall and winter are always busy doing this type of work here. 🌱

No one wants to use the planet burning plagiarism engine that lies all the time except the most worthless employees in any given company, the executives?
I'm shocked!

Exciting news: my union @pen-guild.bsky.social won our fight to hold management accountable for rolling out AI tools with no notice & for failing to hold the bots to the same standards all of us humans must follow — in violation of the contract they agreed to. A neutral arbiter said we were right!
PEN Guild wins landmark arbitration on AI protections - Washington-Baltimore News Guild
This marks one of the first major labor-arbitration rulings on the impact of AI on journalism, setting an important precedent for the U.S. news industry.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The federal government has never lived up to its commitment to shoulder 40 percent of the cost. Now, advocates want the feds to pony up, @juliametraux.bsky.social writes.

I have been busy doing some deep dives into Star Trek cosplay. Planning on having my first full trek costume for next Halloween. Probably going with a Picard season 3 jacket design (blue, science division, I'm an ecologist) because I really like the look of them. But... haven't decided yet.
I made a Star Trek Combadge out of metal! I don't have a costume to go with the badge yet, so this is currently one of my favorite fridge magnets. #startrek

What do these corporations have in common?

Netflix
Ford
Tesla
T-Mobile
Duke Energy
DISH Network
Metlife
Dominion Energy
United States Steel

In recent years, they all paid their execs more than they paid in taxes.

This is what a corporate-rigged system looks like.

I love these little birds! I got to hangout with them when I spent a year in England. I remember doing some gardening and having one running around looking for bugs and worms right where I was working and later two of them tumbling around on the ground in a battle over said bugs and worms.

I ordered some native edible plants today! 15 cattails, 3 woodland strawberries (for my in-laws place), 6 yampah, and 6 California compassplants. All edible plants native to the west coast of the United States. Yampah and California compassplants are new to me, but hopefully they will work out. 🌱

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

If I need to fly, I'm going to dress in a way that is comfortable for me. I will be in a much better mood and kinder to the people around me if I'm not dealing with sensory overload from uncomfortable clothes. And yes, that will involve sandals of some sort. Probably my hiking ones.

Abolishing ICE is only the beginning. Have you looked at your local cops?

..

According to mappingpoliceviolence.us, police kill at least three people per day; from a meta analysis published in NYT, we now know the number could be six or even more.

I love the moopsy references in the comments. If you don't know. Moopsy is a creature in Star Trek Lower Decks that will drink your bones while looking like a cute little white ball. And it will say moopsy over and over. Very dangerous though can be distracted by teeth.

Stubby season is here in the Pacific Northwest and this chonker is showing some big feelings about being photographed by turning white and burying itself in the sand!

This color change is super hard to photograph, let alone light, but I'm pretty happy with how these turned out.

Got a whole bunch of logs and other wood pieces today. Two full truck loads that I loaded myself but got for free. All from a local golf course. Going to use them to create habitat for frogs and other critters in my wetlands. 🌱

I wanted to work in nature with a focus on protecting nature and restoring habitat for wildlife. I also wanted to work in the public sector to avoid profit driven work. And having a union job with at least some protections and benefits. Took awhile but eventually I got a job that fits this.
