I'm drained. All day work training, plus an early morning site visit before it. The training was good, but right at the end, there were some comments that didn't sit well with me as an Autistic person. Honestly, not uncommon in the workplace. Still a lot of work to be done. But tonight I rest...

"Just to be clear: A lack of recognition, supports, & accommodations & the presence of co-occurring conditions does not mean that some people have “profound autism.” Autistic people are all autistic. Period." From @ejwillingham.bsky.social in the new TPGA newsletter.

The existence of even one Catholic convert dismantles the central lie of religion, that it is an innate characteristic from birth and therefore should have human rights awarded to it.

See I can make bullshit, nonsense arguments too, Heritage Foundation.

Same shit different era.

I hate socks and the feel of them on my feet. So I always wear sandals when I can. But my work and my interests involve a lot of outdoor tasks where boots are a necessity. So to handle my Autistic sensory needs, I always keep a pair of office sandals in my work truck for office time. Helps me a lot!
A pair of office sandals. They are great and designed so the foot is mostly covered but with a lot of air flow. My work boots. Just a normal pair of hiking boots.

if you've ever found value in the work of any anti-fascist writer or researcher today, you owe something to Leonard Zeskind. he was absolutely foundational.

For nearly half a century, Leonard Zeskind risked life and limb to expose the danger of white nationalism and stem the far-right’s march from the margins to the mainstream.

As an Autistic person I'm fine taking the time to explain things to people if they bring curiosity and act in a respectful manner. If they immediately start attacking or denying who I am or who other Autistic people are then I just block them. Not worth my time or energy to deal with them.

I love seeing all the garden spiders out and about. Their webs are beautiful and they are effective predators in our garden spaces. Though this one may not be native to the PNW. Now I want to do a deep dive into our native and non-native spiders so I can better ID them. 🌱
A garden spider on a circular web in a native plant growing bed. The spider is an orange tan color with some dark patterns on its abdomen. The spider is in the middle of its web.

Guys, every person you see on Fox News in a mask is just Robert O'Neill, retired Navy Seal and occasional Fox News contributor. He's the former Antifa, former Gazan, former gang member. His eyes are very unique.

This was my second time watching it all. Like a lot of Star Trek it gets better in later seasons. Seasons 4 and 5 are my favorites. And I would rate Discovery above Picard and season 3 of Strange New Worlds. Though Lower Decks is still the best of the newer Trek shows in my view.

These Supreme Court oral arguments on conversion therapy are going to be painful. No matter what is said, know that trying to force someone to be what they're not is psychological torture with measurable negative consequences, and anyone trying to defend such efforts is a bigoted monster.

I'm going to try to take a morning walk and bounce on our trampoline each morning before work. Good self regulation activity as an Autistic person plus I get to see lots of wildlife and view the land in the morning light. Lots of fog this morning and the spider webs were covered with water droplets.
A spider web at the corner of a wood structure. There is fog in the background with some sunshine starting to break through. The web is covered in water droplets and almost glows in the sunlight.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

I got curious and did a bit of looking around. According to this article, it wasn't called a Civil War until after it was over. During the war, the North called it a rebellion and at first an insurrection. Actually interesting to see how the name changed over time and how politics played into it.
How the Civil War Got Its Name - JSTOR Daily
From "insurrection" to "rebellion" to "Civil War," finding a name for the conflict was always political.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

We have a lot of wild rabbits running around. It can make it hard to get new trees and shrubs established. Metal wire cages help, but blackberry cuttings around the plants also work well. But you need to refresh them as they get older. Not a bad use for invasive blackberries. 🌱
A new Cornelian cherry dogwood tree with a metal cage around it. There are a bunch of cut blackberry canes on the ground around the cage to keep bunnies back. The tree sticks above the cage and could be vulnerable to rabbits. There is also a metal t-post that the tree is tied to so it will grow straight.

I recently finished rewatching Star Trek Discovery. Good show overall. Some issues but good overall. Though I didn't like how Zora was treated in the last episode. I think they should have just left that short trek as a dream of Zora's. She even mentions dreaming in an earlier episode.

I just listened to that episode. Really great discussion and I appreciate how good the host is when it comes to talking about Autistic people and Autistic culture. Thanks for recommending the series!
