The idea of repealing the 17th Amendment to eliminate the direct election of Senators has been swirling around the Right since the Tea Party popularized the idea back in 2010.
As Oliver Hardy would say, "Another fine mess".... as Trump is trying to not just void the 17th Amendment, but seeks to bypass ratifying the change by the voters approving this by vote in each state. Otherwise he's not got time to pass it in Congress to be voted on by each state before November

👀 Every Senate Democrat + Collins and Murkowski just voted for the Bernie Sanders amendment to repeal the $75 billion in additional ICE funding under Trump’s “big beautiful bill.” The measure failed 49-51.
