Ed and technology policy, former grad student working on Information Systems for untrained responders in big disasters

Advice that applies to more than just information technology: a thread.

If you're simplifying a complex problem, you're likely doing it wrong.

NGL the mark of an expert who can be in charge of public policy should always be, "Does this person know how to shut the fuck up about areas they aren't an expert in".
He also wrote the book "Dow 36,000" just months before the dot-com crash, and published a wildly optimistic COVID model despite having no background in epidemiology. He's no stranger to saying stupid things for attention.

This is fair, we should actually make our President murder the turkey and clean it.
Americans: You Brits and your stupid anachronistic traditions!

Also Americans: Time for our Head of State to perform his sacred and hallowed ancient duty in issuing executive pardon to a turkey.

The 1970 amendments to the Truth in Lending Act (TILA) established a federal law that limits a consumer's liability for unauthorized credit card use to a maximum of $50 per card.

It was accompanied by absolute screaming about regulatory overshoot.
Your information is worth six dollars a change a pop in this particular settlement.
Comcast will pay $1.5 million to the FCC to settle a year-long probe over the mishandling of personal information.

A vendor used by Comcast to pursue past-due bills was hacked in 2024, which exposed personal information of more than 230,000 customers.

Hand to God I hope we never find out that person does not deserve to be Reality Winner'd and they 100% will be. If they're *lucky*.
I'm really curious who leaked that audio. And why.

Probably should add this one to the pinned thread
The fact is that users have enormous desires that you never deliver on as IT. And in this they are susceptible to lures and being hacked. The hackers are gonna deliver them what you don't.

I have been in this gig long enough that I experienced the screensaver wars.
You meet the users where they are to stop them doing the stupidest shit imaginable.

You have no idea how much this paid off. The number of infected media players people downloaded in the age before Windows Media Player had more than three codecs is unimaginable

Who knows if I saved the firm

NEW:

The DOJ tells Judge James Boasberg that Kristi Noem made the decision that flights that had departed should continue on to El Salvador, in contravention of the court’s orders.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

Donald Trump lies about his weight (and has not lifted a barbell in at least twenty years.) He also is quite clearly *not* taking care of himself.

His healthcare is free.
Markwayne Mullin on healthcare: "What the president would like to do is say, hey, if you take care of yourself -- you don't smoke, you don't dip, you're not drinking, you're not overweight, you're working out -- then you should pay less than the guy that obviously is not taking care of himself."

By the way if you have never done this remedy that on Friday.
Someone will ask, "What is Stuffing Waffle?"

Fill your waffle iron with leftover stuffing. Waffle it until crispy, then cover it with a thin layer of leftover mashed potatoes, shredded leftover turkey, one or two over-easy eggs, and then ladle on the gravy.

Pretty convincing evidence here that the Trump administration was planning to jailbreak and provide asylum for Bolsonaro -- and that Trump inadvertently revealed the plan.

And this, as the now-cliche goes, would have been a paralyzing scandal for any other administration.
Trump appears to blurt out secret plan, not knowing it's already a bust

Somewhere on this site there is a guy who is so mad at Jamelle Bouie blocking him that he has updated his profile that he was blocked by Bouie and is dropping into every thread he can think of to comment about it.

I cannot imagine letting anybody into your head over something so trivial.

Note that 51% qualifies as "most" (it is probably bigger than that, granted) and there are 213 Democrats and 219 Republicans.

Since all the Democrats support the subsidy extension, this means that the current vote if brought to the floor would range between 214 yes, 218 no to 322 yes, 210 no.
Speaker Mike Johnson has reportedly told the White House that most Republicans aren't interested in extending ACA subsidies.

Reminder that 57% of ACA Marketplace enrollees live in congressional districts represented by a Republican.

They're selling out their own voters.
