Yup
This is the "testing the waters" phase of the playbook. The GOP ecosystem targets groups like Somalis, Haitians, and trans people specifically because they've calculated that the average person's passive disapproval won't ever turn into active defense. They're exploiting public apathy.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad

I'm on my third Keanu movie of the night.

Most ridiculously awesome costarring role:

1) Ice-T as head of the LoJacks, Johnny Mnemonic
2) Jeff Daniels as a SWAT dude, Speed
3) Tilda Swinton as Archangel Gabriel, Constantine

Predictable, really. Act of purest optimism to presume otherwise.
This seems to strongly suggest that the incoming president of UVA doctored his CV to the edge of outright dishonesty, and that the most recent changes came months before Jim Ryan was forced, as if they were made in anticipation in Ryan’s removal. augustafreepress.com/news/vanishi...

I'm no fan of Steve Mnunchin but I think in hindsight it's somewhat remarkable how much effort the guy must have put into preventing the President from incinerating the dollar out of ineptitude.
They know he’s stupid. Some of them just have been thinking they can ride the tiger.
You know the thing where Musk seems smart until he starts talking about things you know about? Finance dudes are about to go through that with Trump.

LOL Wanda that's hilarious.
Wanda Sykes thanks Ricky Gervais for not being there because it means she can accept the award on his behalf... and he's gonna thank God and the trans community (he won, she did) #GoldenGlobes

Jokes aside this happens because once something big enough happens status quo bias gets yeeted into the stratosphere and that unlocks a whole lot of "well, let's try it and see what happens"
Nothing ever happens until everything happens all at once
I confess I have absolutely no idea how the fuck this plays out because the range of outcomes are "Nothing Ever Happens" to "McGotterdammerung."

Again, if the sitting President violates a ratified treaty to attack an ally on his own, not only should he be impeached, he should be put on a plane to Denmark in chains.

There's no pretense here at all.
Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

You did not see this kind of statement from the Turkish central bank before Erdogan staffed it with sycophants because he had carefully laid the groundwork to do so without resistance over the course of 15 or so years. And then once he did do it, inflation went from 10% to 86% in two years.

Although the "identifying as a Nazi" thing is remarkable, I think it's actually more telling that he identifies the mom in the minivan as an inhuman bug bent on his actual death.

Trying to remember who actually got shot in the face challenge: impossible.
Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers fairly obviously mocks and satirizes fascism.

Jack Posobiec (not a particularly intelligent man) sees this and unironically identifies with the Nazis:

Watching doc about resilience that reaffirms many changes I made last few years to my mental outlook (I read a LOT of brain books). Brains are hallucination engines. If the story is the world is shit, everything is fucked, brain reframes every interaction this way. It impacts behavior; shuts us down
