I've found the perfect frigate for the USN: the Saronic Corsair.

Now I know what you're saying: "that's just a really small speedboat"

But what you don't know is that it's actually autonomous, modular, and AI-enabled.

Seditious conspiracy. Treason. The next democratic administration (which, mind you, we will have to fight to install, as Trump and Co will not cede power after losing the upcoming election) should arrest the six conservative justices and seek the maximum penalty.
Counterpoint:

The Supreme Court lacks the authority to change the text of the Constitution.

So either it affirms the text or (further, and more completely) nukes its authority as Constitutional arbiter.

There’s no third option. Art III (courts) can’t just usurp Art V (amendments).

The Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether to uphold the longstanding principle that grants citizenship to the children of non-citizens born in the U.S., following a legal challenge by the Trump administration. n.pr/48E1oko

The Supreme Court is illegitimate. Their rulings are plainly partisan and clearly wrong. The six conservatives should be placed in handcuffs and put on trial for seditious conspiracy.
Scathing dissent from Justice Kagan:

"[T]his Court reverses that judgment based on its perusal, over a holiday weekend, of a cold paper record. We are a higher court than the District Court, but we are not a better one when it comes to making such a fact-based decision."

This guy is currently #1 on the list for the next (god willing) Democratic administration for CJCS or SECDEF.

Why? Costly signals.

You don't have to guess whether he has integrity. He demonstrated his integrity with a very costly signal, the truncation of his career.
When Admiral Alvin Holsey abruptly resigned in October, everyone suspected it was a purge. Now we know why: Hegseth had asked the top Admiral to resign after months of discord over the legality of the boat strikes in the Caribbean. www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

Hegseth and Phelan continue to insist that US industry cannot develop two 6th-gen jets at the same time, despite everyone else disagreeing with that assessment, despite Congress wanting to fund both jets, and despite China already being ahead with their two 6th-gens.

"We need a larger defense budget" is an unfalsifiable claim.

A) no wars = deterrence worked, but just barely

B) wars won = defense budget was big enough, but just barely, and now we need to rearm

C) wars lost = see, we needed a larger defense budget

For the record, I'm in favor of larger budgets

Imagine a cop pulling over a guy with expired license plates. The guy tells the cop that he is a soverign citizen and doesn't have to obey the law. The cop says "ok whatever you say!" and lets the guy go.

Republicans commit treason and democrats just go along with it. No laws for Republicans.
Republicans are like sovereign citizens, claiming the law doesn't apply to them. Democrats just agree and go along with it.

With the Constellation frigate being cancelled, it's a good time to revisit this essay in American Affairs.

The truth is that it doesn't really matter. The US is never going to be able to win a naval war with China.

Thanks for the thread. Something else:

The Navy in 2019 said that increasing from 32 to 48 VLS cells would cost $16 to $24M additional per ship.

The CBO also forecasted that a Constellation would cost $1.4B per, and a Flt III Burke $2.7B per.

My guess: Trump orders some bombings. No boots on the ground. Whether or not anything is achieved, Trump will declare a bigly victory about 2 weeks later and move on.

Alternatively, a special ops raid to get Maduro. It goes horribly wrong with many operators captured or killed.
We’re about to invade Venezuela because trump wants their oil. No other reason. The airspace has been cleared. Embassies are being evacuated. Flights are being canceled.

He’s going to kill people for oil.

Why are we all pretending that the US is not going to default on its debt?

We're adding trillions to the debt every year. We pay over a trillion dollars a year in interest payments.

In my lifetime, the US will default, the dollar-led international monetary system will end, and the US will be fcked
In October 2024, the U.S. unemployment rate was 4.1 % and the inflation rate was 2.6 %. Now, unemployment is 4.4 %, inflation has risen to 3 %, and we’ve added $3 Trillion to the national debt. The “Golden Age” feels more like the “Broke-Ass Olden Age.”
