got around to playing Ray Frank's Having Company, a quake 2 mod that I am now convinced is one of the greatest surrealist masterpieces of our time. if you like weird shit and the aesthetics of amateur fan maps, you need to try this. I can't remember the last time a game made me laugh this much.

and not even in a "90% of runs ending in a sweaty TTV stack kicking you back to lobby sucks" way, but that PVP fights don't even feel particularly fun when you win. That the gains for clutching out a teamfight victory feel marginal but the losses for getting wiped are immense.

the experience of having the alpha installed was *maddening* because like. I'd constantly open Steam and be like "hell yeah I wanna jump into one of those maps and shoot some robots" and then immediately remember that other people exist.
