At least VB makes an attempt to build some token bike/pedestrian infrastructure, unlike Portsmouth. But there's also the fact that VB fought tooth and nail against the Tide LR extension largely for overtly racist reasons.

Maybe it has something to do with being able to step out the door and go for a 4 mile run on paths and sidewalks without dodging maniacs doing 75mph on a 25mph side street that still doesn't have sidewalks because you don't want "those people" in your neighborhood. I'M NOT BITTER AT ALL.

When I told my 3 year old I was taking a train today, he very excitedly said, "Steam train??!"
I can only assume he was referencing his desire to restore the 8-train-per-day Norfolk-DC frequencies that N&W ran in the 1950s.

They're pretty great. On my way back to ALX from Norfolk. Apparently this train is full past Richmond, too...it's like we need more of them or something.

Families living along Duke Street today, who fought for the coming improvements, should be able see the fruits of their own advocacy. Not get pushed out for new residents to reap what we have sown
The only way to do that is to build more homes here and welcome those newcomers to enjoy it with us

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love me some Oban and Laphroaig...but showing off your J&B and Dewars is a weird flex when your net worth is upwards of $200 million.

As I noted a couple years ago in CityLab, cities that rush to remove guerrilla sidewalks end up reinforcing activists' claims.
Local agencies clearly *can* quickly adjust street designs -- they just choose not to.

The Case for Guerrilla Crosswalks
Activists are painting unsanctioned DIY crosswalks at intersections in cities like Seattle and LA. Transportation officials should understand why.
