Love board games, video games, cooking, and hiding away with a novel. Seattle is home, but learned how to live from NOLA and Malawi. Even as an adult—or maybe especially as an adult—will still drop everything to watch an episode of Mr. Rogers.

Really proud Lost Patients is among this year’s Best of the West contest winners.

“This is an important, informative, and beautifully told story with the power to change how listeners think about public policy and the institutions that shape so many lives.”

There can be such beauty in board games, but that beauty can often be difficult to express or explain.

I’m grateful for this kind and generous review, which somehow delicately balances lonesomeness and joy as it captures the full, uniquely human beauty of this timely and deeply important game.
Molly House is a strange and meaningful beast, at once a celebration of queer love, a critique of imperial power, and a call to solidarity. More than that, it is a game that can't help but be personally meaningful to the lonesome and tired. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/02/12/m...
Love and Heartbreak in Georgian London
As a second-grader, I despised recess. Not because I enjoyed class — it was boring and tedious, hemmed in by schedules and busywork — but rather because I was lonely. Some people don’t unders…

Very proud to announce the Department of Health will now process all requests to change gender designation on birth certificates within three business days. Previously, there was as much as a 10 month wait.

I’m so grateful for Will’s series about mental illness & the chance to share share my experiences as a public defender. Many thanks to Will, @sydbrownstone.bsky.social, & @esmyjimenez.bsky.social for the love they put into it & the compassion they showed for the folks at the heart of these stories.
Didn’t expect our documentary series about serious mental illness to make Apple Podcasts’ year-end list of favorite shows

Grateful for this recognition for Lost Patients by @kuow.bsky.social, @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social, and @npr.org

Great friends, strong coffee, and an exciting new board game—Fromage is so good! Super interesting rotating worker placement mechanism, and even better a total commitment to its fun and unique theme, I just love it.

It means accepting the reality that nobody has more information about me than me, nobody cares about what’s happening inside me more than me, and I am my own. I love myself because I’m the best possible person to have on my side.
For anyone who sees this: what does it mean to love yourself and how do you do it?

My 11 yo son and I really enjoyed our first play of First Rat in Space by @pegasusspiele.bsky.social. Such a great game in which you race to collect junk parts like tin cans to build a spaceship for your ratronauts. A fun, light-hearted theme complemented by many different scoring paths. Loved it!

Bobbing in a sea of blood-soaked schlock, our deeply-reported podcast about the mental health system is one of the most-downloaded new shows of 2024.

I'm proud of the whole team behind Lost Patients for showing what audio journalism can still achieve.

We have to stop thinking that what affects children won’t affect us. It always has and it always will. We could change the whole world—no hyperbole—by truly putting the welfare of children first, with all the considerations of their full human rights.

Amazing and well deserved.

@alisonbays.bsky.social is someone who role models how to fight for your patients, especially in a system that is deeply flawed and often hostile

The Death of Vivek Oji is a wonderful novel. One particular line has stayed with me for months, haunted me, especially over the last few weeks & as we prepare for what’s ahead:

“Some people can’t see softness without wanting to hurt it.”

When I read it, my heart sank with recognition.
