Minnesota state Senator John Hoffman and state Representative Melissa Hortman were shot at their homes in what authorities are calling a targeted attack.

This senseless act of violence not only threatens the lives of those involved but undermines the very foundation of our democracy.

The House just passed a funding plan that slashes vital programs for women, children, and families — while adding $10B to expand immigrant detention, including for families. This is a moral failure.

The Senate must reject this harmful bill and push for a bipartisan deal that supports all families.
