Proud queer, based in Vancouver, BC (unceded Coast Salish territory). My politics are best described as eco-left. I will definitely also be posting about pop culture and urbanism, and will certainly be engaging in general nihilism. They/them, please.

Welcome to new followers! Please buckle up, because my posts are complete chaos and I like it that way. There is no theme, no continuity, I'm just out here brain dumping all over the timeline.

The Pink Floyd / Dark Side of the Moon show at the planetarium is exactly what you'd expect. Bring your edibles!

That, and, CATSA kept flagging my bag for secondary screening every time I went through security with it!

Yeah, the original ones were not great for that. When I got my balance switched over to the keychain (and yes of course I kept the mini train as a souvenir), they told me the more recent versions are more sturdy, but I haven't made an effort to get in on the release.
nealjennings.bsky.social
I did know that! I replaced my mini train with one of those awhile ago because the normal keychain ones are less prone to falling apart.

Whoever wrote the headline for this story really buried the lede.

The Christmas fish, Halloween's most famous mascot.

For now, until the board gets its shit together. I was hopeful for the new location - the old one is too small and I really don't like that there are basically no permanent exhibitions.

There's something very Vancouver about our future art gallery being turned back into a parking lot.

On the one hand, it's lovely to be the envy of the rest of the country. On the other hand, it reminds me over and over that this appeal is a large part of why this place is so damned expensive. Everyone wants to be here.

Whenever I see a touring performer here, they always have extremely nice things to say about Vancouver. Like not just "I love being here in City X" but usually deeply personal anecdotes and comments on how moved they are by the nature here and stuff.

For every €1 paid out, they got €1.46 back. UBI works, again. If the BC or Canadian governments want to save some money, here's a good place to start! You'd think the Conservatives would be all over it!

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Heads up if you're travelling through Kits, W 4th Ave, East of MacDonald, has some sort of collision that has left a dozen or more buses just stranded at the side of the road. Take a Broadway bus or the 2 if you have to go through this area.

Ah yes, Matthew Good and his band I Mother Earth.
Screenshot of a Facebook ad from Live Nation British Columbia. The image is of an astronaut floating in space above earth and the headline text reads "Matthew Good and his band I Mother Earth" followed by some dates and cities.

Have said it before and will say it again: if we have made the decision to massively subsidize the electric car industry, it is ludicrous that we aren't doing the same for e-bikes. We should be doing unconditional grant programs (ie you do not need to give up a car and it's not income tested).

"Over half of the e-cargo bike mileage ridden during trials substituted for car use."

Having to switch to the mobile web version of Instagram to see who liked my post because the app won't tell me is maybe the most 2025 internet thing there is.
