Hello #PortfolioDay! I'm Rebecca, a science and medical illustrator who loves birds and other feathered creatures 🐡🪶🧪
Portrait of a female Great Hornbill, a large bird, down to the upper chest. Her beak is huge, with a yellow-to-orange maxilla and damaged casque and a pale blue-grey mandible. She has a black mask covering her face and the base of her bill. Her eye is silvery and has nice lashes. Her neck shades from yellow through raw sienna to a pale burnt sienna, and her body feathers and the top of her wing are black. Twelve detailed vector illustrations of brains, arranged in two columns, one without blood vessels and one with. More anatomical layers are added from top to bottom, starting from a midsagittal view and ending with lateral. At the bottom left is the wordmark "MedStudy", for whom I did this work. Gouache painting of Anchiornis huxleyii, a small feathered dinosaur, climbing through branches. He's mostly grey with black-spotted white wing, leg, and tail feathers and a rusty red crest and cheek feathers. Watercolor illustration of a Red-and-yellow Barbet, seen at 45°. His head is mostly red and his belly is creamy white. His wing is black with white spots, and a band of this pattern circles his breast. His tail is banded black and white. He's glaring at the viewer, challenging the audacity of any who would dare to look upon him.

Ah yes, a popular field of study in the parrot community

They don't seem to mind, unfortunately! It's the invasive tiger mosquitoes, too - the stealth ones that don't make that whine.

It's barely dipped below 50 here so far 😬

Why yes, I am playing Baldur's Gate 3 for the first time

My anti-research assistant, Dr Boris B. Bayes, PhD. His research interests include
(1) Optimal methods for screaming louder than 120dB,
(2) Finding excuses to bite, and
(3) Figuring out where fruit and almonds come from and how to make them appear on command.

Tron gives an inaccurate impression of how many guys live in your computer. It makes it seem like thousands of guys are in there. In reality only about 10 guys live in your computer and less than half of them ride motorcycles

That American Robin stance
#birds
A brown bird with rufous breast is standing in a shallow bird bath. With feet spread wide, it is glaring into the camera creating a formidable pyramid of attitude.

Thanks, I'll probably stick them in the garage. Maybe I'll keep a couple indoors to see what happens!

The Knesset is...well, we know what it is...but Israel!

I really should've repotted these guys already
A tangle of young Sarracenia plants in a tray, somewhat overcrowded. Most pitchers are yellow-green, some are yellow near the top, some with red veining. Some have contrasting white patterns on their lids.

Oh, you may know the answer to this - do sundews need dormancy in their first year, or can I keep them active to grow through winter, like young Sarracenias?

Hen and Dragonfly.

Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 95 × 64 mm.
Silhouette drawing in black ink of a hen running after a dragonfly over wild grasses. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache. The piece is small and intricate.

Tyrannosaurus rex was named 120 years ago today on 4th October, 1905.

I would do things a little differently now, but this drawing is from 2020.
Graphite and brown pencil drawing of the head of a Tyrannosaurus rex, mouth agape, in profile, facing left. The drawing is characterised by intricate linework and texture.
