Japan is always 20 years ahead culturally of the United States.
My guess is that since it's much more willing to embrace creative destruction tech, it deals with the economic and cultural consequences of it quicker as well.

One time Thomas Massie got mad at me for suggesting that one of his policies was bad and challenged me to a debate about who was a more principled libertarian. I offered to have him on the podcast I was hosting for the Cato Institute at the time, and he never replied. I'm pretty sure I would've won.

My Uber driver was listening to Dave Ramsey and I was struck by how his conversations are all about helping people in bad financial situations get out of them, but then his sponsors are often scammy companies preying on ignorance to get people to buy useless goods and services.

We should call it the Dearborn Switcheroo, where people vote Republican based on "hope" that they will enact certain policies, and as soon as the election is over they give a middle finger to such voters and do the opposite.
