To take this seriously there's a bit in one of the Lensman (Lensmen?) books where they're doing an experimental treatment to regrow body parts and the Admiral's dentures don't fit as his teeth regrow and he complains he can't live off soup. The doctor says he'll send a nurse with a soft-boiled egg.
