That's what I thought UNTIL I made a serious attempt to beat Bubsy some years back. The more time I spent with Bubsy, the more I hated Bubsy. The first couple of levels are okay, but the game becomes MISERABLE.

(I never played any of the sequels)

Oh man, they still exist and are WAY COOLER THAN I REMEMBER THEM BEING WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER!

Day 8: Devil House by Shonen Knife (English version)

Keeping the Japanese theme going with some classic Shonen Knife! This one was originally recorded in Japanese, but I'm more familiar with the English version.

TIL: Disney made a special poster for the 1969 re-release of FANTASIA aimed squarely at stoners + hippies and THAT theatrical run is how the movie first turned a profit.

Halloween! Nightmare King! Ghost! Ghost Pepper! Wednesday! And now the Jack-O-Lantern Whopper. I'm the only person in the world with a complete collection of Burger King's Halloween Whoppers, dating as far back as 2015. Can't believe I'm single.
Every Burger King Halloween Whopper, from 2015 to now. (Why though?)

There's a very, very small but not zero percent chance J.R.R. Tolkien played Pong. That Charlie Chaplin watched Star Wars. That Ginger Rogers drank an Ecto Cooler. That Samuel Beckett tuned into Miami Vice.

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.

Illustration: a portrait of Rieko Kodama with some of the games she has worked on. The dominant colors are yellow, purple and red. Counterclockwise from top left: Rieko Kodama, Alis and Lutz from Phantasy Star, Sonic in a maze, Alex Kidd and his motorbike next to Flicky on a waterfront pier, Joe Musashi and his dog near the Statue of Liberty facing a skyline, the three playable characters from Golden Axe seen from behind on the edge of a cliff, and one of the flying ships from Skies of Arcadia.

I just read issue #92, which confirms that Doug Moench has read it along with some other counter-culture and esoteric books, and was in correspondence with Robert Anton Wilson!

(Too bad they didn't wait one more issue to disclose it: 93 would have been an Aleister Crowley reference.)

This panel from Master of Kung Fu #83 has me convinced that either Doug Moench or Mike Zeck read The Illuminatus! Trilogy
A panel from Master of Kung Fu #83, featuring a peace sign, a swasika, a cow skull, a hexagram, a 666, and significantly: an eye in a pyramid, an apple, a number 5, a number 24, and a pentagon.

This video has been blocked from re-release since the 90s by the Jimi Hendrix estate. It's cool to officially have it on YouTube!

(Although it was mastered on video, so it's not all that better looking than before)

Baker & Taylor appears to be shutting down. A post on the r/libraries subreddit from an employee of B&T breaks the news and there appear to be other employees in the comments confirming the situation.

Oh no, TWO essential Halloween events are happening at the same time later in the month: a horror movie marathon in a theater and a concert featuring The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black

I don't know what I'll decide on, they're both such cool options...
